I purchased a playstation 2 console from ebay. The system boots up fine but when asked to push X the controller does not respond. I tried this with several games is it the controller?

Hold down the power button for 5 seconds or until you hear a beep. It will reset the system.

there is a reset option on the software and on the remote control I believe or try 4 or 5 9s should fix it

the laser lens is most likely messed up. you have a few options to try:
1. open your playstation and manually clean the lense(how to's on web [youtube.com]to help you do it).
2.buy new laser lens on ebay.com and other sites for as low as $60
3.send the system to sony and get a refurbished system for $150
4.buy a new system

This is an issue since 3.10 update...MANY MANY people are having this problem. Try turning off console then turning console on by hand and waiting till its booted to turn on controller. eventually it will work, but its only a temporary fix, hopefully sony will respond to this problem soon

It doesn't happen to everyone, but just about.

The problem is most likely related to the GPU on the motherboard.

But let's find out for sure.

Try booting the PS3 with the hard drive removed.

You have to open the battery cover on the controller and press the red button as well as open a small cover/door on the front of the Wii system and also press that red button. This will sync that controller to that specific Wii system. You will have to do this when ever you buy a new controller or try to use any of your controllers on a different console.

I am afraid you will need the original proof of purchase, if you still have the details in you email account about the person you purchased it from, try to contact them and ask them for the receipt if they have one.
