Thank You, I will try that. As of now I figured out that i could get it to work by closing the lid and pushing the lid to the right, then it activates. Just gotta do that everytime I close the lid and all is good. Thanks a lot

A common easy fix for this problem is making sure the screws on the hinges (right and left side of the lid) are tight. Loose screws will cause it not to properly srike the lid switch and the unit wont run since it thinks the lid is open. If they are tight, you will probably need to replace the lid switch itself.

How do I get top of my washer..Maytag Centennial ...Model # MVWC400VW1...to get to the lid switch?

This model Maytag is actually manufactured by Whirlpool. To access the lid switch on this particular model, all you should have to do is remove the operator console. The console has a retaining clip on each side holding it to the cabinet top. To release these clips, simply take a putty knife and slide it under the left and right front corners of the control panel push straight in towards the back of the washer. The clips will depress, allowing the operator console to be lifted up. The lid switch is mounted next to the left lid hinge. Refer to the "Top and Cabinet" parts illustration, Item 6 at searspartsdirect.com:

http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-model/Maytag-Parts/Washer-Parts/Model-MVWC400VW1/3048/0153200?pathTaken=&prst=0&shdMod=MVWC400VW1

Some other websites you may refer to for parts include:

pcappliancerepair.com
appliancepartspros.com
repairclinic.com

NOTE: If you model number does not cross reference to these sites, use the part numbers fromthe Sears websites as your search criteria. Often, the model numbers may not be included on some websites (newly added models), but the part numbers will.

HINT: In some cases, what may appear to be a bad lid switch, may only be an actuator adjustment. The acutator on these models is the rod attached to the left lid hinge. You can bend the rod slightly to adjust the contact with the lid switch, or it may be tightened as necessary. If the switch toggles (clicks) by hand with the actuator rod removed, the switch typically is not bad.

If you need to remove the entire cabinet to access under the lid, the following link explains how:

Model # 44722 Portable Washer Are you suppose to open washer to balance load while washer is in spin? I did and the tub stopped abrutly moveing the machine about 1 foot across the floor.

a safety mecanisim built into washers is the top lid switch it detects when the lid has been opened if you do this whilst its spinning it will engage a powerful brake as you saw to stop the barrel so you dont reach in and loose an arm its perfectly normal. if the washer goes unbalanced wait turn the power off at the wall wait till it stops spinning then re arrange the cloths

best of luck

See the Sears Manual site for your washer.

They list a part number for converting from portable to permanent installation.

http://www.managemyhome.com/mmh/lis_pdf/OWNM/L0411083.pdf

It's listed as part number 3935674.

Lid Open switch needs adjusting

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:
http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/getModel!retrieve.pd?pop=true&modelNumber=110.26924500

Enter your model number and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.

It sounds as if your lid switch is jammed or broken.

Go to the section on the Sears site for the Top and Cabinet parts and you should see #9 Lid Switch.

See the section on the Control Panel and look at Item # 8. This is a clip that holds the control panel onto the cabinet.

If you un-plug the washer and slip a thin putty knife between the cabinet and control panel where the clip is, the clip should release allowing you to tilt the control panel back to gain access to the Lid Switch.

Kenmore Washer Model 110.28974890

Yes you can. Searspartsdirect.com carries all the parts you need to replace the washer lid. Just type in the model number you provided and look under the "Top and Cabinet" heading for item number 19. Pay particular attention to the part numbers. There are two listed. One is for a WHITE (part #3952141) lid and the other is for an ALMOND (part #3952146) colored lid. I hope this helps you.

PS This was the cheapest site I could find the lid. If you still wish to do some comparative shopping, use the part numbers provided by the Sears website for your search.

Dryer works fine, washer fills up, then does nothing more

The symptoms you describe are typical of a lid switch malfunction. The lid switch is usually located on the right hand side under the top cabinet. It is activated by a plastic piece on the lid (called a "Lid Strike") through a small hole on the right side of the wash tub opening. Make sure the lid strike is still on the lid and intact, first. Then, check the mounting screws that hold the lid switch in place (along the right hand side tub rim). Often all that is required is to tighten up the mounting screws and this will realign the lid switch where it can be properly activated by the lid strike. If the lid switch is broken, you can find a replacement at searspartsdirect.com. Just type in your COMPLETE model number and look under the "Washer Top and Lid" heading. The lid switch is listed as item number 22 (part #3355806) and the lid strike will be listed as item number 16 (part #358684). If you do not wish to order online, take the part numbers provided by Sears and go to your nearest appliance parts retailer. These are common parts that most will carry in their store inventory.
This is a very inexpensive repair that you can easily accomplish on your own. I hope you find this information helpful. If you require additional assistance, please let me know. You should be able to access the lid switch on your model washer by the following steps:

1. Unplug the appliance.
2. Insert a putty knife into the seam where the top of the washer meets the front panel, about 2 inches in from each side.
3. Push in on the release tabs while lifting on the washer top. The top panel and lid should lift up. The lid switch should be mounted under the top panel on the right hand side.
4. Locate the lid switch connector and unplug it.
5. Remove the the mounting screws that hold the switch in place, and remove the wiring harness from the mounting clips.
6. Reinstall new switch using the above steps in reverse order.

I hope you find this information helpful. Let me know if you require additional assistance.

PS This is a common problem experienced by this line of washing machines. To prevent future failures, do not slam the washer lid or place anything heavy on the lid. Repeatedly slamming the lid to get it to work, or manipulating the timer can also cause more potential problems.

Getting lid off kenmore oasis canyon capacity washer

Okay, here ya go! There are 2) screws attaching 2) brackets to the back of the machine. This holds the lid in place. When attempting to do this bring a friend or family member to help hold the lid. You then slide the front top back slightly. this will allow access to the drum. Now there are several little slots holding the drum top into place, carefully remove these from the teeth holding the lid into place. You can now see down into the sides of the drum where items can easily get caught. Take your time and relax this is not hard to do this task. To re-install simply reverse the directions and tighten the brackets back to the body. I hope this helps. If you need a decent diagram go to www.sears.com, click on parts and enter your model number in the search box. From there you can view diagrams, parts and pricing lists. I hope this helps!!! Good luck!
