I DON'T THINK YOU CAN RUN 2 ROUTERS ON THE SAME NETWORK UNLESS ONE IS USED AS AN ACCESS POINT.
1. Connect as local device or bridge - If connecting the second router via Ethernet cable, plug it into one of the LAN ports on the first router. If connecting the second router wirelessly, ensure the second router is set for client mode. Note that some home wireless routers do not support client mode; these must be connected by cable. Check your router documentation for details on its client mode configuration support.

2. Check / change IP address - Most home network routers use a default IP address setting. Often, these default IP addresses will not work in a two router environment. Check the second router's IP address value and reset it if necessary to work within the valid address range of the first router (and to not conflict with any other device on the network).

3. Disable DHCP - To avoid IP address conflicts between all of the devices on the home network, only one of your two routers should assign addresses via DHCP. All mainstream routers provide an option to disable DHCP as part of the router's configuration screens.

Instead of adding a second wired router to an existing network, consider adding a network switch instead. A switch accomplishes the same goal of extending the size of a network, but it does not require any IP address or DHCP configuration, greatly simplifying configuration.

This is too involved to just post your router settings. I would recommend reading up on how to "cascade" your router or to make your Modem/Router act as a bridge.

The dlink will need to have its DNS disabled and have the Linksys do the DNS. Then the LInksys will be using the Dlink as its host. you may be better off seeing if you can make the dlink run in Gateway mode instead of router mode.

Then see how to implement the cascading router with your particular situation and WAN IP.

You need to configure your router with below method. Connect your router to computer with ethernet cable then you can access it with following default link. http://192.168.1.1 or http://192.168.0.1 or http://192.168.15.1 or http://192.168.2.1 If you are not able to access it with above ip then check your computers ip address gateway ip is your router ip try with it. Then it ask for user name and password. Type user as "admin" and password as "admin" or "password" or blank. Then you can see configuration page of router. If you are still not able to access router with above ip then you need to RESET it for that press RESET button for 10 seconds it is in back side of router then all settings defaults..Then you can access it with above method. Then set WAN settings as internet service provider settings enable DHCP. .Click on wireless and enabled it. Then click on wireless->wireless security->WEP security there is code password note down it or enter new password then save setting s and restart router. then you can connect wireless with new password. Connect internet lan cable from modem to router's WAN port. Let me know if you need further assistance. Thanks for using FixYa.

set up the internet conenction (i.e. your internet provider modem plugged into the dlink router also)

if it has a built in wizard then just follow the on screen instructions

you will need to define SSID (wireless network name) and passkey (password for the wireless connection)

and the your done. disconnect the laptop from wired connection and connect via wireless

Linksys modem won't stay connected

Have you tried updating the firmware? The dropped connection issue is a very common problem on this model. Linksys products are typically unreliable. We suggest switching to netgear, dlink or 3com.

Linskys wireless-g broadband router not connecting to network

first thing, we need to know what this d-link is... Is this a modem? or another router? Can you check its model #, perhaps at the back? How many ports does it have? To verify your internet connection, try connecting your computer to the dlink and check its IP address (Go to Start> Run> type "cmd". On the black window, type "ipconfig"). Do you have internet connection when your pc is straight to the dlink?

I'm thinking that dlink is conflicting with the linksys settings. If it is, we need to change the IP address of the linksys router. Post back what you find out.

Switch compatibility problem.

I think you need to go from the leased line to the ROUTER first. The switch you said was unmanaged...so as far as I can tell there is NO IP for the DLINK. If that's the case your router needs to be before the switch and after the modem.

Can't access adminpage of the router from the 1st lan

you can use ethernet cable, or you can use the wireless.

search for the wireless network and connect your pc to that wireless network. or simply connect an ethernet cable to your pc and connect other end to the Linksys WRT54GL .

open an internet explorer (or whatever you use) type ip address.

Limited or no connectivity to the internet. my setup: the telephone port is approx 30m from where i need internet access. Originally I had a dlink wireless router set up but was connected via cable, now...

On which port of the D-link router did you plug the WRT160N router?

Do this setup.

Disconnect the WRT160N from D-link.

Connect a computer to port 1 of the WRT160N. Access the setup page by typing 192.168.1.1 on the address bar. you may need to type in the username and password for WRT160N. on the setup page Change the LAN IP address from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.2.1. save the settings.

Connect a cable from port 1,2,3 or 4 of the D-link router to the Internet port of the WRT160N. turn off everything then turn them on starting from cable modem>D-link >WRT160N then computer.

You should be able to access the internet.
