As it is always said that working with the registry is always dangerous. Anyways, what has been done is done.

If you used some registry cleaner program to delete the registry keys, Most probably you would have made a back-up of your registry as well at some time in the past.

Try locating the Back-up file & then you can simply add the values by double-clicking on the *.reg file. If there is no back-up alas, i don't think there is much what can be done.

The best possible & easy solution would be a complete OS re-install.

Good Luck.

Cannot open Reader on Desktop - click the icon and nothing happens

If you mean Adobe Reader, then either the shortcut has lost the information on what file it is associated with or Adobe Reader is no longer on the computer. If you recently transferred to a new computer using the Windows Transfer Wizard, the shortcut may be pointing to a different version folder or to a not yet installed program. Remember the Transfer Wizard does not install the programs and doesn't transfer the registry information about installed software from the old computer.

For Windows:
First, right click on the icon and then click on Properties. That will give you the location and name of the program it is associated with (as it was created). For example: on my Win7 32-bit machine this reads "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 9.0\Reader\AcroRd32.exe". Next open the Control Panel Programs list, see if Adobe Reader is listed. (For Win7, this is Start > Control Panel > Programs. WinXP, look for the Add and remove programs section.) Open Computer (My computer) and navigate to C:\Program Files. See if you have an Adobe Folder and then the reader folder location. (If the folder exists, check for the exe file and if that full folder name matches the one for the shortcut.)

If Adobe Reader isn't installed, go to http://www.adobe.com and follow the link on the right hand side to download and install Adobe Reader. Then remove the bad shortcut since a new one will be added to the desktop.

If you have Adobe Reader installed but the shortcut isn't pointing to the correct location, you can create a new shortcut by right clicking on the exe and choosing create a shortcut. Before you do this, double click on the reader.exe and check that it does launch. Otherwise, uninstall and reinstall the program.

I hope this helps.

I down loaded a HP Deskjet F4280 DRiver and I dont know how to put a short cut for the scanner

Open your Prgram files dirctory and open the folder for your scanner. Click the "View" on top bar and set it to "details". Listed there somewhere will be at least one, probably more, .exe files. Find the .exe file that opens the scanner ( look for SCAN in the name) open it to make sure it is the right file, then right click it and choose "create a shortcut" which will create a shortcut on your desktop. It is also possible in some configurations to get a "send to" option when you right click, where you can choose to put a shortcut somewhere else, possibly Quick Launch. There may also be a choice in the context menu to "add to startup" which will put a shortcut in your startup list.

I have had an account with AOL for years without a problem but when I click on my desktop icon it will not open. What has happened and how do I fix it?

    Hi there,

AOL shortcut was created on your desktop. Due to some technical issues, the configuration might have changed. Do not worry. I will help you to re-create another shortcut of AOL on your desktop for one time click and work,
When the AOL software is installed, a shortcut is created on your Windows desktop, allowing you to quickly and easily sign on. If your desktop icon is missing, or if it points to a version of the software other than the one you would like, follow these instructions.

To create an AOL icon on your desktop

    1. On the Start menu, select Programs, then click Windows Explorer (on Windows XP, select All Programs, Accessories, then click Windows Explorer).
    2. Browse to the folder that has your AOL software (e.g., C:\Program Files A File is an electronic document which can be text, pictures, sounds, videos or whole programs. Reminder: Never download files from someone you don't know. Files may contain dangerous Trojan Horse programs that may capture your AOL password, severely damage your computer, or contain objectionable graphics. To report a violation in an attached file, please forward the e-mail to screen name TOSReports.\America Online 9.0).
    3. Click the file waol.exe once to select it.
    4. On the File menu, click Create Shortcut.
    5. Drag the new shortcut icon (Shortcut to waol.exe) to your Windows desktop.

    Notes

    ·
You can rename your shortcut to something more meaningful to you. Simply press F2 on your keyboard while the shortcut is selected, type a new name, then press ENTER.
    ·
To delete a shortcut, drag it to the Recycle Bin. Your AOL software will still be on your computer.

    That should work. For further reference, click the link;

    Try this:

Find the MS photo program on your hard drive (I believe, but am not sure, it is located here: C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Photo Editor.Exe Create a shortcut (right click on Photo Editor.exe and choose create shortcut) to the program. Then, after the shortcut is created, RIGHT click on the shortcut and click on properties. In the properties windows that pops up, find "run probram MAXIMIXED and make sure that is checked." then, click on OK a couple of times until you can see the "shortcut to photo editor.exe" shortcut. Double-click on that shortcut, which should start photo editor maximized.

    Woo Hoo.

    Now close photo editor.

Hopefully from this point on every time you open photo editor it will open maximized because you have just tweaked the registry to do so...

    Take care,
