Hi
they are 4 type to troubleshoot this problem!
1. Dirty Lens (Clean the Lens)
2. You have dafective Flex ribbon Wire (Replace a new one)
3. You have defective Pickup lens (Replace a new one)
4. You have defective Motherboard (replace a new one)

This is a simple troubleshoot a DVD all types...

But for me try the 123 not 4 if you have a knowledge in basic electronic repairing...

Thanks....

When i try to play a dvd it says cannot read disk. please choose another

The rca jacks are either marked in for signal to enter or out for signal out.

If will not read a disc either the optical pickup in the DVD unit is dirty or bad and it is that simple.

Disc unknown

Not all media discs are playable in all machines.Not all formats are supported in all machines.Coppied and Bootleg discs will not play on expensive players.Dirty,figerprints,badly scratched,all will have problems.Use a disc cleaner (liquid,and fine cloth) to remove scratches.Buy a $ 25-35 cheap player they play anything.Good Luck.

It says..please insert a playstaion or playstation 2 disc format.

It's not asking for a specific disc, it's asking for a properly formatted PlayStation disc.

This message could mean that any one of several things has happened:
* You are trying to play a Japanese disc on a US PS2, or vice versa
* You are trying to play a game that has been copied onto a CD-R/DVD-R
* Your disc is scratched/dirty/otherwise unreadable
* Your disc isn't a format that the PS2 recognises (i.e. CD, DVD, PS CD-ROM, PS2 CD-ROM, PS2 DVD-ROM, etc)
* Your PS2 is broken

Saying no disc

Dirty disk?? Check the disk out make sure it is free of scratches,dirt,residue. You can also buy a DVD cleaner and clean the actual player and see if that is it.
