Question about Phones

3 Answers

I own an i730 Motorola. Bought it a few years ago when I was with Southern Linc. I have never used it for anything other than the walkie-talkie. My Nextel i710 Motorola transmit button stopped working so the phone is no good. I took the sim card from the Nextel phone and put it in the Southern Linc phone. It says "Enter Special Code" What do I do to make the Southern Linc phone functional with the Nextel Sim card ?

Hi, Welcome to FixYa

This document is also available in PDF format (this PDF has higher qualify images and a password and is not free. It requires purchase, with your purchase, you will receive the HEX file for Raptor Pro that's mentioned in this web page) for easier viewing and printing.

RSS Carrier + iDENPro
I own an i730 Motorola. - fc55141.jpg
Phone Power: On
i-DEN phones are made by Motorola. They use SIM cards and look like GSM phones, but they are not GSM. The most popular iDEN network in the US is Nextel (now with Sprint) and Boost (owned by Nextel)
For most i-Den phones, use the RSS Carrier to put the phone RSS-SIM mode. Then use iDEN Pro.
It is recommended that you use the USB cable for Motorola iDEN phone when using RSS carrier and iDEN pro. Pay attention, the iDEN cable is very similar to the Motorola V600 cable, but a bit wider. So be careful not to confuse them.

RSS Carrier is useful for reading either the six-digit or four-digit phone or user security code. However, the actual unlocking of the Service Provider lock is done with iDEN Pro software.
Once you connected the phone, some times it will prompt you to install the driver, just follow the instruction and install it automatically. If it does not work, try to manually install the driver from the directory, which the Motorola RSS is located.
Assuming the driver has been successfully installed already. You should open the RSS Carrier software, click on File and Read Phone. This should put the phone into RSS-SIM mode.
Now you can exit RSS. Open the iDEN Pro software, and wait for it to detect the phone. Then click on Script | Open Script. Open a file under the iDEN Pro directory called “command3.txt” and then go to Script | Run Script. The phone should restart after the script is finished. Now test with a different SIM card.
Raptor Pro For a long time, Raptor Pro was not updated and stopped supporting any phones newer than the i405. However, recently the Raptor Pro’s hex file has been updated to support almost all i-DEN phones on the market. To unlock, i-DEN i880, i885, Raptor Pro (keep in mind the Hex File can be found under C:\Program Files\Raptor Pro\Hex File) has to be updated to support this type of phone. Make sure a SIM card is insider the phone and the phone should be on and ask for a special subsidy code. Then you should connect the phone using serial cable on COM1 and run Raptor Pro. It will take few minutes and give you the unlock code. It should be the first one. After getting your unlock code, try to put it into your phone with a different SIM.

Tip Some times when a person insert a different SIM and has entered the incorrect unlock code more than few times, the phone will show “Enter Special Code, Please Wait” or “Contact Service Provider”. In this case, you need to wait up to one hour for the phone to allow you to enter the unlock code again.

All you have to do is contact your cell phone provider and give them the numbers off of your phone (the IMEI number and the code) located under the battery. Sometimes you can retrieve the information off of the phone as well. You could also try getting a hold of Motorola to do an unlock as well. It takes anywhere from a few days to a week to do. As long as you have all of the information from your Nextel phone.

To understand What Unlocking is, we have to understand the forms of locks...

Passcode: (4 digits)
What it is:
The passcode lock is a 4 digit lock that shows up every time you power the phone on. This lock is normally set by the owner.
It exists at:
Menu > Settings > Change Password > Unlock Code

Who needs it unlocked:
-Anyone who forgot their 4 digit unlock code, or anyone who acquired a phone that has this lock enabled.

Default: 0000

Security: (6 digits)
What it is:
Its main function is primarily to lock up options like Master Reset.

Who needs it unlocked:
-Normally, no one. LOL
-Probably just someone who forgot their code

Default: 000000

And the worst...
Subsidy
What it is:
This is a Carrier Specific Lock. This is the mother of all locks, and about 90% of all unlocking we do here. This lock is so bad, it varies in ROM versions. The purpose of this lock is to keep the owner on 1 specific Carrier.
For example, if you own an i450 you'll notice if you attempt to put a NEXTEL SIM inside of it, it won't work. It'll ask you for this unlock code. Thats because they designed the i450 to work for only Boost. The Boost phones are locked against Nextel. However, Nextel Phones aren't locked against Boost.

Who needs it unlocked:
-Dealers
-Anyone who owns a BOOST and needs a NEXTEL\iDEN CHIP
-Anyone who has a phone and needs to use another iDEN service provider (southernlinc, telus, etc)

Default: NONE
Hope that helps........

I purchased the motorola rizer 1 year ago. Recently th center directional dial has come completly off I've tried gluing it as a temporatry measure but it has reduced the ability to use

Unfortunately, your warranty has expired from the factory (standard 1 year). What you can do are:

1. Check with your service provider to see if there are any specials that you can take advantage of. Most carriers have promos to keep there current customers to stay with them. They often offer "Upgrade" programs in case you want to change to another phone....Verizon is usually very good with this....

2. Locate a local repair shop and have them replace the keypad.

Display goes blank. Clicking sound on line.

If a new one is heating up that means theres an overload in the phone and will certainly burn out a new adaptor or if your saying the new adaptor you bought a couple of years ago is heating up the the diodes or filter inside the old adaptor is bad and replacing adaptor with a new one will fix it . Good Luck
