Does it make any difference whether you operate from batteries or the adaptor?

I would try using it with a fully charged battery (and the adaptor disconnected) to see if it also shuts down without warning or if the circuit that monitors the state of charge is still functioning. If it is, then you should get at least a few seconds warning before the system shuts down.

If it acts the same regardless of power source, then the problem is probably beyond any help you can get here since it is then likely to be located on the main board.

If the unit acts differently when changing the source of power, then the adaptor is probably at fault.

These are prone to failure due to a flaw no one seems to want to avoid and can be fixed in the design for little cost.

Gets no power from wall or battery

Few things in life are as frustrating and infuriating as working ******* your laptop, only to see the screen go dark due to a sudden power loss. While there's a good chance your hard work and data is gone, the more concerning issue involves the cause of the sudden loss of laptop power. A suddenly dead laptop could indicate a more serious problem, or simply be due to a loose battery or power cord.

Overheating

If your laptop's fan was running hard and fast right before your laptop went dead, it's possible the machine shut itself down to avoid damage from overheating. The internal electronic components of a laptop generate heat when the computer is turned on, and this heat must vent to avoid causing damage to the machine. If the air vents are clogged or blocked and the heat inside cannot dissipate, the laptop will power down without warning to prevent possible damage. To avoid this problem, ensure that your laptop's fans and air vents are clean and clear, or use a laptop cooling stand to help vent the heat.
Battery Issues

Laptop batteries are not exempt from malfunctions, and a sudden power loss may point to a problematic battery. A loose connection may cause a surprise laptop death, as can dirty connectors. Like most other battery types, laptop batteries are not immortal and eventually lose the ability to hold a charge for long. Some laptops have sensors and circuitry to monitor the battery, and will cut power to and from it should it become too hot or exhibit too high a current. Try cleaning the connectors and reseating the battery properly to fix the problem. In the event of a loose connection, a repair technician may be your best course. For malfunctioning batteries, a new replacement battery may be the best way to prevent future power failures.
Electrical Problems

If you were using your AC adapter for power right before your laptop powered off, there may be an electrical problem somewhere along the line. The outlet you were plugged into may have short circuited, or the adapter itself may have overloaded. The connector on the back of your laptop may be loose, preventing proper connection of the adapter. A short circuit within the laptop itself may have occurred, preventing either the battery or adapter from providing power to the rest of the electronics. Work backwards to find the source of the power supply problem. Try a different electronic device in the outlet, and insert the adapter itself into a different outlet. Reinsert the various cord ends into the adapter and laptop to ensure a tight connection. If a short circuit seems the likely cause, seek the help of a professional technician for repair.
Troubleshooting

Try to ascertain what occurred right before the power loss. A physical move of the laptop may have loosened the battery or jostled the adapter cord loose. Try removing and then reseating the battery and tightening the adapter cord. A loud fan noise may indicate that the machine was on the verge of overheating. Let the machine cool completely before attempting to reboot. An unusual noise emanating from within your laptop may indicate a short circuit. A beverage spill can cause the death of an laptop if not attended to quickly, causing short circuits and power failure.
Precautions

Observe standard safety procedures when dealing with electricity, and never disassemble or examine an outlet or your laptop without disconnecting all power first. If delving into your laptop to check for short circuits and loose connections, work in a clean, open area to avoid introducing any new contaminants to your laptop's vulnerable interior.

The window is suddenly shutting down everytime i open it, eventhough it is fully charged?

Im very sorry to hear that, please follow these simple steps for you to be able to isolate the exact problem.

1. Removed the battery.
2. Connect the laptop directly to the power outlet without using the battery just for the meantime.
3. Turn on the laptop. If the laptop is able to power on, that means that the AC adapter is working fine as well as the DC port. If the laptop is not able to turn on, it maybe the AC adapter itself or the DC port.
4. Try to use another AC adapter if possible, make sure that that AC adapter is working fine. If the laptop is still not turning on, the problem is with the DC port itself. In that case, you will need to replaced the Motherboard itself.

Hope this will help...Thank you for using Fixya...

A/c adapter is not working all of a sudden. Do I need to replace it.

Does the adapter wiggle around when it is plugged into the computer? if so it may not be the Adapter itself but the connection in the computer. if you know a friend with a similar adapter ask to use theirs. if not theres a chance the adapter is burnt out. also. does the computer work on just battery power? or does it NEED to be plugged in? if so then it could be a battery issue and not the adapter at all. hope this helps

Hp laptop dv6000 won't start how to solve

Hi,

I think you can try this step and see if it makes your laptop work.

1. Unplug the AC adapter and Remove the Battery
2. Press and Hold the Power Button for 30 secs. without the battery and ac adapter
3. Put it all back in and see if the machine will work.

If happened it doesn't work. Try this.

1. Turn off laptop, unplug laptop, and remove the battery.
2. Unscrew all panels on the back of the laptop.
3. Reseat RAM and Hard Drive.
4. Check if the power port is loosed.

If happens those steps don't work it could be with the Motherboard, CPU, Video Graphics or LCD itself that's having a problem.

Hope it helps somehow.

Can ac adapter run computer without battery installed

In one word - YES!
Very handy when your battery is dead - or just very heavy to carry around... :)

If it doesn't work for you - something;s probably bad with the power adapter or with the laptop itself.

Best regards,
Pelu.

My vaio turned off suddenly an the side light was blinking when i was trying to turn it on. Now i doesn't even turn on.What should i do?

Hi There !!

Thank you for choosing fixya.com
It's could be because of two reasons.
1. The Laptop is Overheated
2. The battery of the Laptop has some problems.

To diagnose this:
Step 1: Let the computer, be turned off for 15-30 minutes. Unplug the battery, Unplug any external Hardware connected to the laptop. Could be any external drive or any thing.

Step 2: After 30 minutes of disassembling the laptop. Let's put the battery back in & don' plug the power chord. Just give it a try to turn it on without plugging it in to the power jack.

Step 3: Still no joy, Try to plug the power chord back again & try to adjust it. Because Power port detects the power cord only after much adjusting of the cord and putting a weight on top of the cord so that the cord somehow makes contact with the power port on the laptop.

This is really the case with Vaio & Acer laptop because of their complex design.

Step 4: Check the voltage of your CMOS battery. if your battery is low it will fail to power up the system. if you leave it sit for a long period of time, it may be having a chance to "recharge" itself. This step should be done by a professional, because you might damage other part of the machine .

If your computer in warranty, Call Vaio Helpline right know. And, if any chance your computer is little old dont call Vaio help line because they charge heavily. Contact the local tech shop, even for your reference http://www.compusa.com/ it's cheap & good service dealer for laptop.

Hope this'll direct you in the right direction.
