Question about Brother SX-4000 Typewriter

1 Answer

Typing Malfunction The part that moves won't move more than a couple inches across the page before it seems to become stuck, gives a loud churning noise, and will continue to type only in that one spot. I can hit "return" and continue to the next line, but I cannot move beyond that spot. Is there a way I can possibly clean my typewriter or fix something? It was working just fine up until several minutes ago when, without any sort of injury, it decided to **** out on me.

Could be a forien object down in the machine. With the machine OFF you should be able to move the printhead easily by hand from one side to the other. If not, look in the machine and see if there is something physically stopping it.

Paper Jam always comes up whenever I turn the printer on. I checked THOROUGHLY, no paper at all!!!

Could also be the carriage stuck. Try to activate the change-ink button, and see if the print heads move over. If they do, unplug the printer from the wall, and then see if you can move it gently across from right to left.
If it's hard to move, try a little (1 or 2 drops) sewing machine oil in the metal shaft, move heads back and forth a couple times, then plug in again.

My ink cartridge won't move & is stuck on the right side. When I turn my printer on it tries to move back and forth like normal but only moves about a 1/4 inch and then moves back. It does this...

Mine did that before too! I just took the ink cartridge out and kinda wiggled it around a bit then replaced the cartridge and it worked! If that doesn't fix it I'd post the make and model of your computer so someone knowledgable could better help ya! Have a great day hope u get it goin!

We have the lighted movable Fisher Price Globe. Problem is... it won't move... seems to be stuck. Can you tell us how to release and what to release so it is free flowing? "thanks"

I just bought one at a flea market today, and had the same issue. After a couple of searches, I came up with the solution. An Etsy seller had this to say: "You might be afraid that the globe is "stuck" and won't turn, but you just have to be firm to turn the globe. You'll hear loud clicking when you turn it; this is because the globe is made to stop at certain points so that the viewer can easily meet up with the white dots." I tried turning mine firmly, and it did finally make a loud click and turn. It does not spin freely like a normal globe, though. I also found a PDF of the original instructions: http://service.mattel.com/instruction_sheets/76609.pdf

Iomega Firewire Hard Drive

There is an arm in a harddisk that holds the read-write heads. This arm can move the heads to tracks near the hub or near the edge of the disk. A normal hard disk is 5 inches (12.5 cm) or so in diameter. This arm, therefore, can move about 2 inches (5 cm) across the face of the disk. The speed at which this arm can move is astonishing. The arm is very light, and its actuator is powerful and precise. The arm can slide across the face of the disk hundreds of times per second if it needs to.
As the hard-disk arm moves back and forth rapidly, it sets up vibrations that our ears hear as sounds.
