Roper Dryer Just stopped working, pushing the start button does nothing. Door switch works fine, breaker not tripped. Should I buy Volt meter and begin checking parts in back. If so, what should I check?

You may have tried this but every time mine has ever stopped and refused to restart was because I forgot to clean out the lint in dryer screen.

Frigidaire electric dryer #134745400 -electronic control board just stopped working. no lights, no power at all. checked and getting power to plugin. getting power through pigtail, lent filter clean.

Electric dryer no start does nothing

Check dryer Terminal block prongs both outside prongs should give combined 220, and 110 each if u check 1 outside & 1 center (ground) prong. Also check house electrical outlet for full voltage.

CHECK THERMAL SHUT OFF THERMOSTAT USUALLY LOCATED ON THE BLOWER. for OHMS or resistance with a meter. Should show a closed circuit. Ohms WHEN THIS FUSE BLOWS IT WILL SHUT DOWN EVERYTHING.

NEXT Test the PUSH start switch with meter for OHMS. Should show OHMS when pushed in or on start, and no ohms or infinity when in off position.

If you hear a humming/clicking sound from motor area you more than likely have a bad motor.
Try this test out to see if u have weak windings or relay/capacitor on motor.
Open the dryer door and turn by hand the drum while machine is on ON position. And you or someone else presses the door engagement switch in. If it starts up then u have bad windings

Another thing to check is the belt safety switch. With a multi meter.
Especially if u just replaced the belt. The belt safety switch is attached to the Tensioner and motor. IT LOOKS LIKE A DOOR SWITCH SOMEWHAT a little black pc of plastic with 2 prongs going into it. Sits at bottom of motor. Under the Tensioner. Attach meter clips to the 2 prongs on switch, Then when the little white push button is pressed in it should show continuity and none when released.

Lastly check ur DOOR SWITCH for continuity with a meter when the button is pushed in the (on/Door closed position,) it may have gone bad.

I turned on the dryer and it ran for about thirty seconds before it just stopped. I pushed the start button again, but it wouldn't start at all.

Is the motor trying to start? Is there power to its outlet? If it is gas try plugging something else into the outlet to check for power. If it is electric turn the breaker off for ten minutes then turn breaker back on again and try the machine. If you have a volt meter you could check the outlet for power that way. If the motor is running when you push start but the drum isn't turning than you probably have a broken belt. Is the door all the way shut? If so you could have a broken switch at the door. To check the switch would require opening the machine case and using an ohm meter to check the switch. The last thing it might be is the timer. If it is an older (ten or more) unit and it is the timer then it might make more dollars and sense to get a new machine.

Dryer not starting

  • Hello there,
  • Well with this type of problem there can be qa couple of different things that can cause this . First of all you should check to see if the breaker is tripped in the house breaker box. Open the panel and find the 220 volt breaker and reset both of the 110 volt switches. The reason for the 220 volt is because of the heating element inside it. Go back and try it again and if it is still not working open the door on it and be sure that the door safety switch is being pressed when the door get shut. There should be a plastic piece sticking out that pushes on the switch when the door closes. Find the plastic piece or find the hole that the switch is in and then make your observation.
  • It is at this point that if it is still not running you will have to take things apart, so if that's what you want to do then write back and let me know how this went so far.
thanks and good luck...

I was out of town, came back, dryer will not start, no electricity going into the dryer but fuse is fine and plugged

You said fuse was fine do you mean your house fuse? Or do you have a breaker. Breakers do go bad and will reset but not have any elect flow thru them can be cked with a volt meter. Also use a volt meter on the voltage at the dryer. The easiest way is to remove the screw holding the shield over where the dryer wire enters the dryer. Make sure you have 220 volts across the two outside wires outside wires to center wire will show 110 v each. If you have voltage your door switch is bad or your motor switch which is mounted on the electric motor beside the motor pully you can ck the door switch with a ohm meter after you remove it. you can access the door switch by popping the top of the dryer loose first remove the screws at the dryer cleanout vent if it is on top if it is inside the dryer when you open the door its fine. The door switch is located on the top inside front of the door area. it is a on off switch only if it goes bad nothing works. You will need an ohm meter to ck it you can pickup one from any hardware store. Get a cheap one it will work fine. Read the directions with it. And respect electricity...

Dryer won't start

It is hard to tell exactly what is wrong without seeing it in person, but I can tell you what to look for. First check the power coming to the dryer.... is a breaker tripped? If you have fuses, make sure both fuses for the dryer are good. Even if only one is bad the dryer wont work. If you have a volt/ohm meter, you can check for power, first at the dryer receptacle, then where the cord connects to the dryer. It is important to wear safety glasses when doing this. Then you might check the door switch on the dryer. It is one of the first parts to go bad on some models. If you are not familiar with electricity, it would be good to have an experienced person check out your dryer.

My dryer (frigidaire stackable washer/dryer) just stopped working, the washer is fine, but when I start the dryer nothing happens. I set the time and push the button and NOTHING.

Howdy: The circuit breaker could have popped in the motor. Maybe the selector on/off switch has gone south. Will need a AC meter to check voltages from switch to motor. Doug

My dryer just stopped running?

It could be the door safety interlock switch. Remove the switch short the two wires and press start. If it works remove the short to stop the dryer and order a switch. If you have an Ohm Meter you can test the function of the switch without shorting the switch.
