Question about InFocus IN72 Multimedia Projector

1 Answer

Bulb failures My Infocus 72 projector bulb failed after only 311 hours. I purchased a new bulb and after 20 minutes the projector turned off and I got the red blinking light again. I got the red blinking light after the first failure also. I read that this indicates that a new bulb is needed. I am thinking that something else is wrong. Any suggestions?

I also Have an INFOCUS IN72 projector that started flickering at 500hrs then shut down. It flashed the red light 3 blinks which I beleive means globe. Purchased new globe and still flickered but not as bad untill 200hrs later on new globe it started flickering worse then shut down again flashing red light 3 blinks!!! Had it looked at by local electronics guy (not infocus specialist) he said possibly a ballast. Help would be much appreciated!!!

I experienced the same thing, only to discover it was the ballast that powers the lamp. I believe INFOCUS repairs for $390.00 per the technician that I spoke with on the phone at INFOCUS.

I had the same problem so removed the bulb which is very easy, only 3 screws, found the wire mesh inside was covered in dust so vacuumed using a brush head attachment, removed all the dust & did the same to all the external vents too. The projector now runs smoother, quieter & does not over heat after hours of continual play. Hope this helps, Chris

I have a infocus IN35 that at 100 hours burnt out a bulb. Thinking that it was just a bulb problem I bought a new bulb and it lasted 20 minutes. a t.v.repair shop said its probably the ballast that is the...

It is not a common problem. Ballasts rarely need repairs. Have you reset the lamp hours to zero after installing new bulb? If, yes to confirm about ballast please ask the TV repair shop man whether previously he had repaired any DLP projector. There is lot of difference in technology of DLP projector & TV (except DLP Projection TV). The problem could be in the projector main board. The lamp lights after getting Lamp ON signal from the projector main board. As the lamp ignites the ballast sends the signal of Lamp Lit. If the projector board senses that any blower/exhaust fan or colour wheel is not running then it will send a signal to Switch OFF the lamp. If you are tech-savvy then do as follows to check about lamp & ballast. Remove 5 pin connector from the projector. Connect projector to mains supply. Get a 5V DC power supply. Connect +ve to pin 3 & -ve to pin 4 of the ballast connector from this supply. The lamp should light. If it does not light then there is problem in the ballast (if the lamp is new). To give a chance you can check it for your lamp which lasted 20 minutes. Generally ballasts are made by OSRAM. You can get the ballast from OSRAM dealer. You will need the part number for that. Take out the ballast, it is there on it.

Projector turns on and works for about 2 minutes, then shuts off

You may have to reset the bulb hour counter. Go thru the setup menus and see if you can do it from there. Infocus projectors make you jump thru the hoop.

New bulb installed and it takes 10 plus minutes to start

Exchange the lamp under warranty...
You've tried almost everything else.
It's not that uncommon to experience "infancy failure" with a brand new lamp.

If the problem persists with the replacements replacement then I would suspect the Lamp power supply (Ballast) is failing.

Hi there.

How many hours had it done? The bulb may have expired and as a safety precaution the projector will not switch on, otherwise the bulb will explode causeing further damage.

Cheers
