Occasionally this is an indicator that the hard drive has failed, it recognizes the hard drive and tries to boot from it, but the hard drive continuously spins without booting. Try removing the hard drive and going into the bios. If you can get to the bios without the hard drive, then the drive has failed and needs replaced. If you still cannot get to the bios, then the problem may lie with the motherboard or a corrupt bios and will need to be checked out by a tech. Also check the memory chips, rare, but occasionally this will cause these symptoms.

Before removing the RTC battery, follow these steps:1. Shut down the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn thecomputer on, and then shut it down through the operating system.2. Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer.3. Disconnect the power from the computer by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet andthen unplugging the AC adapter from the computer.4. Remove the battery (see Battery on page 34).5. Remove the following components:a. Hard drive (see Hard drive on page 37)b. Optical drive (see Optical drive on page 44)c. Switch cover and keyboard (see Switch cover and keyboard on page 46)d. None of the keys work on hp logo screen F10, f11. f9. esc system won't boot from hard drive or cd

Hi,

are you using a usb keyboard? A lot of systems require a ps/2 (purple round connector) keyboard to access the bios settings and anything on the startup screen unless you have set usb on boot in the bios settings. I would try connecting a ps/2 keyboard and see if it helps.

Hi. You may have disconnected the fan by mistake when unscrewing it, so the laptop closes down when the system detects the fan isn't working. I would check the fan. It should have a tiny cable which plugs into the motherboard.

Otherwise the only solution may be to remove the hard drive and install it in another laptop, then you can access the data from there.

No response from Monitor, Mouse and Keyboard

Definitely a "faulty" motherboard. If fans on PC do not turn, no lights come on and dead screen.

If lights come on, and fans turn, try to reset the BIOS by removing your CMOS (and setting the jumper to clear for about 5 minutes, then put the jumper to normal again) battery for 5 minutes.

Sometimes the bios just "stuffs" up and you'll get no response from your pc at all. So all you do is "CLEAR THE CMOS/BIOS"
