There is a small capacitor on the power supply board that opens causing the unit not to start.

I have install the Eprom 1.27 and the update v3.03 and the LiteOn DVD writer doest not recognize DVD, only CD ???? What's the problem?

The Alesis isn't designed to work with DVDs, only CDs.

You can't just place a DVD writer into it, and expect it to work.

DVD RECORDER MODEL R175, I CAN PLAY MUSIC CD'S BUT WHEN I PUT A MOVIE DVD INTO, IT DISPLAY "NO DISC" AND SOMETIMES A BLACK SCREEN ON TV.

It is quite a common problem. What I do in my shop is to open the unit, and replace the DVD writer (is the same as a standard PC one) with another IDE DVD writer. (any model will work, but I try keep LG with LG etc)
Once you replaced the drive all should be back to normal. (I also use LG dvd writers on Daewoo recorders)
Hope this helps.

I HAVE A DVD RECORDER VCR COMBO,THE DVD PLAYER NO LONGER WORKS. CAN I REPLACE THE DVD MYSELF OR CAN I GET IT REPAIRED?

You can replace the drive yourself.
This is quite a simple process, as most players use a standard IDE DVD-ROM or DVD writer. (some with fancy clips you can change from the old unit to the new one)

You simply remove the tray and face plate on the new drive, (apply power to the drive, and press eject first) the tray will open. Unclip the tray face, and then with the tray open you can unclip the plastic face plate too.

Remove the old drive, and fit the new drive by reversing the removal procedure.

Once everything is assembled you should be able to watch DVD's again. If you can't find a cheap IDE DVD drive locally, try ebay.

I have done this on over 50 players for my clients in the past. I use LG IDE DVD roms and IDE DVD writers for the DVD recorders, irrespective of brand.

Let me know how it goes.

Philips HDRW720/17 won't turn on

I have a DVDR725H, which is the same as a HDRW720 but has a 160GB hard disk.

This error code (FAIL 0900 05) is displayed when the DVD drive has been completely removed/disconnected or is not responding.

Note that the DVD drive (VAD8041) is apparently known to have its DVD motor driver chip (SA56202TW) getting destroyed due to overheating. There is a repair kit available (about 10-15 EUR) that comes with a zener diode and two capacitors (order number 996500029182).

Note that it might be easier to get some used philips DVD+HD product that has the same DVD drive, e.g. the DVDR610 or DVDR615 and use that as a replacement.

take out the plug and let the set stand for about 30 mins.if that does not work take it to a tech for repairs.the problem is in the power supply or the motor.good luck.
