Occasionally, customers have problems locking their Dyson vacuum in the upright position. This is a minor problem common with the Dyson DC07 and DC14 series and can easily be fixed by the customer. This page will show how to fix this problem. Although we show a Dyson DC14 Animal on this page, these instructions will work on any Dyson vacuum in the DC07 and DC14 series.

During shipping, moving parts on a Dyson vacuum can shift in position. One of these parts is a swinging arm in the base of the unit. This arm holds a removable elbow pipe in the vacuum's air passage. This arm can move out of the way so that you can clear out a blockage in the air passage. When this arm is out of position, the vacuum will not lock in the upright position. Fig. 1 Shows the base of a Dyson DC14 Animal locked upright. The red arrow points to the swinging arm. Fig. 2 shows the vacuum with the swing arm out of position. Since the swing arm is lower than it should be, it doesn't line up with the tab on the main body indicated by the red arrow.

Lean the handle of your Dyson all the way back and locate the black button on the right side of the vacuum indicated by the red arrow in Fig. 3.. Press the button down and hold it to unlock the swing arm.

While holding down the black button, pull the swinging arm (Shaded red in Fig. 4) all the way up. Fig. 5 shows the swinging arm in the correct position. Release the black button to lock the swing arm back in place.

The vacuum can now lock in the upright position as shown in Fig. 6. Note how the tab on the swinging arm overlaps the tab on the main body..

Dyson dc25 animal owner. vac stuck in reclining position. can not return to upright.

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

If you're unable to stand your DC25 upright, the stabiliser assembly may need repositioning. This should be easy to do following the steps shown in our video guide:

This should resolve things for you, but you're welcome to get in touch directly if you need further assistance after giving this a try. You can speak to our experts by calling 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

My dyson dc25 won't lock in the upright position

The DC25 Animal has a design flaw where part of the Duct Assembly (main part of the vacuum) where the Red lock bar goes over breaks off the Duct Assembly and it causes the DC25 to not be able to stand up normally. There is a short Youtube video describing this flaw.

Unfortunately, you can repair this except by replacing the entire duct assembly.

Hi there,

To reattach the wand and handle to the cleaner to resume floor vacuuming, just place the handle back onto the main cleaner body. The wand will then retract automatically down inside the hose - simply guide it back down through the handle until you hear an audible 'click'.

If this is not the problem you're referring to, I'd encourage you to contact us directly so we can determine exactly what issue you're experiencing, and provide the information and assistance you need. You can call us free on 08002980298 (UK), or 1866MYDYSON (US).

Hi, pressing the big red foot button on the dc25 lowers the cleaner to the working position, but it wont stand up again. would appreciate some help. thanks. TC

sounds like the ball cradle is worn out, the springs are too stretched to pull the handle release pedal back into place. you can do one of two things, replace the cradle assy, or just lift the red pedal up when you raise the handle

Handle wont go to upright position

The red pedal has slipped out of position. On both ends of the red pedal you'll see metal rods (the axel of the pedal). On one side you'll see the metal rod sits into a long groove, on the other side you'll see the metal rod sits into a round hole. They both have to be in the long grooves so you have to reposition the rod that's into the round hole by pulling it out and sliding it back into the long groove above the round hole. You'll now be able to bring the handle up and lock the machine back into the upright position.
