Question about Canon PowerShot SD110 / IXUS IIs Digital Camera

1 Answer

Power shot SD 110 dark screen

When i turn on my camera, the screen is totally dark, as if it doesn´t work and flickers slightly. When you take pictures, and watch them on the camera or a computer, it shows a dark box as if it isn´t taking the picture. However, when you can see previous pictures taken before this problem presented itself.
Please help.

Last week my camera worked just fine. This week I turned on my camera and the screen is black with a scrolling white lines. Then the lines flicker and go back to scrolling. I bought a new battery and disc but that didn't solve anything. Is my camera toast? Can it be fixed? Will fixing it cost more than a new camera? Help.

Having the same issue. Can Access all the menu options, and even bring up any of the old pictures, but when trying to video or take new pictures, no such luck.

Yup, me too. Can view menu just fine, but screen shows black in picture-taking and video modes, and lo, the pictures and videos turn out almost solid black with no resemblance to the photo subject.

No image is captured by the screen itself (LCD screen works but completely dark).

Did you try pressing the display button several times? in both viewing mode and record mode? Cycle through all display modes, s you get used to the button, so it does not trow you off when it happens again.

I SEE the green light when I turn on the camera but LCD screen of Sony DSC-F505V is dark black, nothing happens-total silence and cannot take any pictures. Did I loose my camera? Solution?

Hi,

Based on the information provided it seems that the issue may be with the LCD Screen. You can check if the Camera is working by capturing images and inserting the Memory Stick in the Computer Memory Card slot. If the image capturing is normal then the images can be saved to the Computer. If the images are not getting captured, then the issue may be with the Camera. We can try power resetting the Camera to resolve the issue.
Turn off the Camera.
Remove the battery pack.
Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
Then, allow the Camera to remain without power for 60 seconds.
If the issue persists after resetting, then service may be required to identify the exact cause.

Thanks for using FixYa.

Dark on lcd screen when turn on. no display or picture.

A stuck shutter is another common failure mode for digital cameras, especially the S2 IS. The symptoms of a stuck or "sticky" shutter are very similar to CCD image sensor failure. The camera may take black pictures (for shutter stuck closed), or the pictures may be very bright and overexposed, especially when taken outdoors (for shutter stuck open). To confirm a stuck shutter, put the camera in any mode other than "Auto", and turn the flash OFF (you don't want to blind yourself for the next step). Next look down the lens and take a picture. You should see a tiny flicker in the center of the lens as the shutter opens and closes. If no movement is seen, then you likely have a stuck shutter. If so, please see this link for further info and a simple fix that may help. Also pay attention to the blurb there about Canon possibly fixing this for free (for the S2 IS only).
