Fuji F650 Zoom Error

I have a fuji F650 that was working great,I took a couple of pictures downloaded them to my computer. Then I put the camera in it's case and set it aside. The next day I got the camera out and turned it on and it shows on the screen "ZOOM ERROR". The lens won't come out,I tried recharging the batttery,I even bought a new battery and still the same problem.
I connected the canera to my computer with the USB cable hoping it might tell me something, but no luck.
I contacted Fuji and asked for help,if there was anything I could try myself, they were no help at all.
Can you help me?

I forgot to say I had already tried the blowing with air.
If I hold the camera next to my ear when I push the power switch it sounds like it doesn't even try to move the lens, there is a couple of clicks then nothing.

Can anybody think of something else to try,I am disabled and on a very small budget so it would be hard to pay a bunch of money to fix it.
    Thanks for any suggestions!

You can fix it on your own just open the camera and see whether some thing is obstructing your lens to move .just take all the screw out which are connecting the two parts of your units body seprate the body gently and slowly, and there you can see inside that any dust particles is there between the small gears if there just clean that.if it is the internal problem this is the solution if it is technical error you have to take it to the service centre for sure.
feel free for further assistance rate the solution as fixya if this helps you solve your problem.
thanks

I had the same problem with a Nikon. Turned out to be one of the gears that controls the zoom lens. The gear jammed and in turn burned out the small motor. I watched the guy tear down the camera and believe me, this is something a camera shop will have to do. I'll tear down laptops all day long, but there's no way I'll ever tear into a camera, the pieces are unbelievably small.

Then it is possibly off track and or jammed. You can attempt to open it yourself and free it. But you could take it to a camera repair shop and have it serviced they might be able to do it for a decent price if its not to hard.

Try this gently grab the lens, pull it out as far as it will go until fully extended. While keeping it extended turn the lens to the right until you hear a click.
Once you hear the click, release the lens and turn the power button on and then back off again. This should take care of the problem. A word of warning.
ALWAYS make sure your fingers do not touch the front of the lens when you power on the camera. Even the slightest bit of obstruction seems to make the problem reoccur. Another note. I had tried this several times until I finally heard the click, so please don't give up on it, just keep trying.
This will work and it will save you a lot of time and money having it fixed.

Hope that helps..........

Hi,

It does sound like your camera is defective. You'll need to call Fuji and arrange for a warranty repair through them.

  • Priya darshan Jun 29, 2008

You can try this,it is recommended by fuji for zoom error:

They said it could be fixed by leaving the batteries out of it for over 3 hour.If this doesn't work then switch over to 2500 mAh Nickel Metal Hydride rechargeable batteries.

you will see a difference.Digital cameras with zoom lens need more power than what can be supplied by ordinary batteries..

Please don't forget to rate or accept the solution.

There is not much you can do. You can try and get the lens unstuck yourself and then it could possibly work like normal. Though in all likely hood. You need to have it serviced by a professional. If you need any help locating one let me know. If it is under warranty you would be best served going through Fuji.
Keep me updated.
Thanks,
Lee

I am sorry there is not much you can do beyond getting it repaired. You may also consider replacing the camera as a comparable model is fairly cheap. You could then sell this one for parts online.
    Thanks,

Good Day,

The best advice I can give you for a situation like that is to get some canned compressed air and use it blow in and around the lens assembly. All it takes is a piece of sand or other debris in there it jams the lens assembly.

Hope this helps

Provided is not due to a mechanical problem, Sometimes pushing down on the lens assembly while powering it on might work. Also try turning the lens assembly (in the direction it would zoom) as well while powering it on. If there is anything jamming it this may free it.

Use my suggestion with care as it may cause further damage if you push too hard.

I wish you the best of luck

Hi Sandra, Try power reset for your camera. Turn the camera on, and without turning the camera off, open the battery door and take the batteries out. Leave it for a minute or two. This helps camera get reset and helps correct the basic functionality and also zoom error. Hope it helps u otherwise u will have to take it to authorised repair center. Good Luck.

Fuji 4700 zoom

there is some chance that it's not getting power for the shutter release. Either becuase of some internal error on the switch, the circuit isn't closed, or that the batteries aren't performing. Unless you're tired of this camera, you could try with new, maybe borrowed, NiMH bats. Good luck
