Question about GE Profile JGP636 Gas Cooktop

One burner has no spark for ignition..

One of our burner has no spark for ignition..other four are working fine. I opened to look under the burner...wire connection area was dark...may be burned (or is it normal due to heat)....Should I replace the wire? how? where can I get it? Thanks for your help. I have the similar problem as Yhamla. However, there is no evidence of burned area on wire connectors. I tried switching orifice 'spuds' asm 'tubes' & 'air-mixers', around to different burner positions, but the problom of NOT 'sparking' stays with the 'Gas Valve' which feeds the 'left rear' burner, regardless of which burner I run the asm tube to. This leads me to think that the 'Gas Valve' is the problem? I suppose I should actually remove/switch the asm tube from that gas valve to a different valve to confirm it?
If the problem is with the Gas Valve, is it difficult to replace the valve? The way to remove it doesn't look obvious. Does it unscrew or is it pressed on somehow? Any helo is appreciated! Thanks

Regarding the problem of no spark/ignition or spark-ticking to only 1 of the 5 burners on this cooktop(GE Profile JGP636), I'm now certain that the problem is with the Valve 'Switch' which sits on top of the Gas Valve. I have the part number,However I need some instruction on HOW TO REMOVE THIS VALVE SWEITCH? Does anyone know how to do this? Thanks.

You have one of three problems first the ceramic ignighter is bad second the switch on the eye is bad or there is corrosion on the burner cap first sand the underside of the cap if that doesn't work raise the top and take the wire off of a burner that's working and hook it to the ignighter that's not turn it to light if the ignighter sparks the switch is bad if not the ignighter is bad don't worry about the valve if you suspect it then turn it to low and light it with a match

get a couple of boards a little bigger than the opening the cooktop sits in then under neath remove the clips on the edges that hold the cook top down push it up with one hand and place the boards under it if there are small screws arount the burners remove them and the knobs then raise the cook top up to acess the switches the switches just snap on to the valves and are replaced in sets of 4

Hi,
Yes this is arcing, and should be replaced. If it is still atatched, you may be able to move it away from an area that it is arcing onto, and give it a try. Wery often it is just items in close proximity that causes the issue.

If you are sure it is not sparking just on that burner, there may be a spark going somewhere - you just have to find out where it is arcing to.

Listen for a spark, and tell us if it sounds like it is working (just not visible) or no sound at all.

Try cleaning the spark tip to remove any food deposits, and check the gap is similar to the others. If it is too wide, it won't spark either.

One burner igniter fails to spark after getting wet

Each burner has its own switch to direct current to the igniter. It appears that one of the four switches burned or shorted out, while the other three survived the flood. These switches are replaceable, so that's how I'll fix the problem.

Viking Gas Burner issue?

is this a sealed burner unit? if so the burner base (the heavy brass part under the burner cap) has to be sitting just right. you will notice that it has holes around the the sides make sure that where your ignitor sparks to it that it aligns with the lowest hole on the burner base. if you have a great flame all around the burner after checking what i mentioned i would replace the spark module. if it continues to drive you crazy with the noise - just unplug it. the burners will continue working fine without power.

Thermador Gas Range - Griddle ignition will not spark

I have a Thermador Gas Range PG364GDBS - Oven, 4 burners, and center griddle. All are gas. The four burners and gas oven work fine. The griddle just stopped working, no spark. Turning on the griddle control, the gas valve opens(hear it), gas flows (smell it), but the ignitor will not spark (no loud or faint spark that I can hear). I got a replacement ignition device (mount at the burner) thinking it might be the problem, but still no spark. I checked the AC voltage at the terminal and measured 39 VAC between the terminal and ground. Not sure if that is the correct voltage. Any insights or advice would be great.

Ignition sparking on its own with GE mongram gas stove top.

the sparking is one of the switches under the knobs shorted you may be able to open the top and take a switch off 1 at a time and you can figure out what one is shorted.or you can just change all of them.
to stop this you may be able to just unplug the cooktop from under the top.if you unplug the cooktop you should be able to light the burners with a match.

One burner has no spark for ignition..

The problem is that the wire is shorting out where the black area is, that's what is causing the black mark.

It is called a pizo lighter, you will only need the section that is faulty, depending on the make/model (some require you to buy the whole pizo assembly).

You can get them from most plumbing suppliers and you should be able to get them from the retail outlet you would purchase the unit from. In each case they will have to order it in.

This is a tricky installation, and will just do the same thing if not completed properly, so if you are not totally sure of the task, please ring a plumber.

Igniter will not turn off once burners are lit.

I've had the same problem for 2 years. Today I removed the four burner tops, the 15/16 inch bolt that holds the burners in place, took everything apart (simple connections underneath), completely cleaned and dried eveything. I also cleaned the 4 knobs and making sure the 4 swiches slide up and down freely then dried everything with a hairdryer. Is now works fine but if the problem comes back, I'll simply unplug the cooktop and light it manually. P.S. I stripped one of the large 5/16 inch bolt that had become weak and brittle. - Try using water or some liquid to loosen the bolts as necessary. Good luck, CHEERS!
