There isn't way to fix this easily. I recommend taking it to Geek Squad and having them look at it. Although it may be cheaper just to purchase a new Ps2.
1) The laser is dirty,and needs to be cleaned or 2) more than likely the laser has failed and needs to be replaced
Other than that check the spindle motor by putting a cd in the slot and feel the shell for small vibrations,if you can feel it the spindle motor is fine
That happened to me as well. I basically had to keep playing the game through without stopping.. which isn't hard. its an easy game. also, try having multiple saves. that often times works. like save in 3 slots each time you save. I also had to do this back with FF9.
i fixed it there was a lose connection on the inside of my playstation so if you open yours youll probable find slot 1 isnt connected or is only partly connected
When you choose to save when you are in any game, on the save screen you can choose to save to slot 2 provided there is a memory card inserted in slot 2.
