Question about Projection Televisions

1 Answer

The short version: Will a 14-year-old TV work with digital-to-analog TV converter? Specifically, I have RCA Model G25342AT, built in Sept., 1994. In case yes, converter should work... Trying to connect converter from Radio Shack, Digital Stream's model DTX 9950. Got limited hints that remote is OK, bouncing boxes with messages "No Program" and "Weak Signal." But can't set up the remote to work with old TV. The whole program code part cuts off, incomplete. Any hope???

The converter box should work. Getting the remote to work with the TV might be a challenge. You might have to stick with two remotes. It used to be in the old days you could plug your tv power into the remote that way you would turn the tv on with the tuner remote but I be they stop doing that.

There is website that will let you check the digital televison signals for your area. This site should help you:

So you are telling me I need a digital converter for this TV to g

Who was not watching the months of public service announcements? You need a Digital-to-Analog (ATSC-to-NTSC) converter box to receive over-the-air (OTA) signals in most parts of the country. You do not need one for most cable and satellite box outputs--they are NTSC or HDMI. Some low-power, typically religious, stations are still analog. Note OTA may be high definition (HD) or standard resolution (SD) but will be digital.
To get HD on your HD set you must have OTA (HD TV tuner, not converter), cable (QAM TV receiver), satellite (HDMI or 5-wire RCA),or Blu-Ray with HDMI or RCA.

Guide

This TV is analog, meaning there are no "straight digital" inputs, and the tuner itself is NTSC (analog), and not ATSC (digital). You will need a digital converter box to receive over-the-air (broadcast) digital television stations. This does NOT, however, preclude you from purchasing Digital Cable or Digital Satellite, and using the analog output on their converter boxes. The television will display high-definition images from those boxes and other sources.

I have the owner's manual in .pdf (adobe acrobat) format. Leave me your email address and I'll send it to you.

Thanks,
Rob

No Audio with HDTV on Mitsubishi WS 55859; no problem w analog tv

Have had bad exprience with RCA converter boxes. The box will lose audio and has to be turned off and then back on. You may want to hit mute during this process, the volume varies from analog to DTV. If you have no problem with analog audio I would look into a different converter box.

52G786 ATSC Tuner no longer works

I have the same exact model tv...Love it...ATSC tuners is in definition an Analog tuner. As the broadcasting companies change over to Digital broadcasting before the deadline in Febuary 2009 more and more local or Non-Digital chanels are becoming obsolete. You would have to purchase a converter box for your tv if your not planning on getting cable. Another way to gois if you have an old cable line running through you house (no incomming cable) plug you tv into that jack. That also acts as a antenna. The sweet part of all this is that your tv do have a QAM tuner or Digital tuner built in just need that digital antenna to pair it up.

Recentlygot a DTA800B1 converter it was my understanding that they would work with any type of tv antenna??? cannot receive a signal and the old anaalog works perfect

It probably is working most of the new digital and HD over the air is broadcast in UHF band which is shorter range. Some people in my area cannot get a lot of digital staions whaic are the same stations in analog after installing their new convertor box. I suggest if you can get cable or satilite even a new set which a built in digital tuner may not receive anything over the air in certain areas Hate to tell you that but it is true

The instructions for our DTA800 digital to analog converter box for over the air waves for TV signals say since the signal is too weak that we need a SMART ANTENNA. What is that and what do you...

Hey boykinpierce,

The phrase "Smart Antenna" is often used to describe a multi-directional antenna or antenna array. These types of antennas are able to detect and automatically adjust to any changes in the TV signal strength you receive, and can generally be obtained through most major retailers. They primarily are used in areas where digital signals are weaker or somewhat inconsistent, and will attempt to optimize the signals they do receive before sending them to a TV or digital converter box.

Please keep in mind that while some DTV digital-to-analog converter boxes may have built-in Smart Antennas, this particular model (RCA DTA800) does not appear to have this feature.

If you're still not quite sure what to look for, please remember that you can always speak with a home theatre sales agent at your local Best Buy™ store for more information.

Hope this helps you out.

Sincerely,
Aaron

Digital or not digital

this tv has no digital tuner built in to it. In order to recieve a digital broadcast the tuner must be atsc compliant. The best solution is to get a converter box to decode digital to analog signal.
