Question about Sony Handycam DCR-DVD403 DVD Camcorder

1 Answer

Great camera but...

My Handycam DCR-DVD403 is great but when it comes time to process video its a bad dream. I bought Pinnacle 10 and never got it to work right and from the web comments either did any one else! I tried Sony Vegas Studio next and nothing but headaches. My wife turned to Adobe Premiere Elements and made a grand stand but then it failed to handle the big DVD movie she made. Maybe its my computer. Are there any sure fire ways to process Sony miniDVD videos? Capture fails, the above products crash my HP Media PC.

I used Pinnacle 10 and didn't have a problem. In Pinnacle you can import a DVD. You should be using a computer with at least 2 gig of memory, 128 meg for video, and two hard drives would be a good thing. Your processor should be at least 2 ghz. They may suggest lower speeds for the processor and these I gave you but you can run into problems.

Make sure that all of the software in your computer isn't running but the video editing program. Shut off all programs running in the background. If you can get two hard drives, make sure that your video that you are working on is on one drive and that the c drive is handling all of the temporary files. I know Pinnacle in particular builds a lot of temporary files up to 15 gig in some projects I have worked on. If your video is on the same drive as the temp files. Your going to have problems.

Also make sure that your hard drives are defragged. That will keep your files from being seperated onto muti parts of your drive. By defragging it, you will have one continuous file.

Make sure your videos are no more than 2 hrs long. Anything longer than can cause quality issues.

If there on DVD you don't need to capture them and that will save you some time by importing them. Make sure you have drivers to read them for your computer if there nor reading mini DVD format.

Sony DCR-dvd403 will not work on battery power anymore. Only on AC power

Maybe you need a new battery: if does it turn on when is plugged only the battery and it will stay on for only a bit or when you try to record it turns off the problem is only of the exhausted battery.

While capturing video from sony DCR-HC 40E via pinnacle 14 HD through IEEE 1394 in wondows 7, the captured video showed too many frame drops.

Sounds like time code breaks.
If you stripe the tape (record in one continuous run with the lens cap on and audio off) this will assist greatly.

When I flip out the LCD Display on my DCR DVD403 the screen just stays white. But if i touch where the touch buttons are they work, i just can't see anything.

The touch screen portion of your lcd panel is working correctly but the panel isnt. The panel needs to be replaced and 9 times out of ten the cable does as well. I hope this helps.

Sony DCR-DVD403 camcorder - picture won't focus. E:61:10 error.

E61:10 is a lens error code. You have a bad lens unit, but sometimes they can be fixed. The focus and zoom motor worm drives on the zoom lens jam when they get dropped. If your really really carfull you can free them up and fix the lens. Thereis a plastic claw that rides along the worm drive shaft that can get jamed. I've fixed thousands of these but i'm a guru. It can be tricky.
