My microwave was built in 2005. It is used only occasionally. We noticed an electrical smell and then the unit stopped heating food. Now when turned on it makes a loud noise and appears to operate normally but still fails to heat food.

My microwave is under warranty. I have this problem before and it was "fixed" one month ago by replacing a thermostat. This repaire is under warranty for 90 days.
I will have a service man to look into this problem.
Thanks MK

The magnetron has probably shorted, and in rare cases the power transformer will fail, "but unlikely"

No power at display!

You've probably destroyed your magnetron, and the magnetron thermostat.

This kind of abuse will not be covered under warranty.

It will likely run about $75 for a technician to visit the home, $75 to do the work, $75-90 for the magnetron, and about $15 for the thermostat.

A blue arc came out of my jen air , jmv 8208bas,microwave oven and now the motor keeps running unless the door is left open. The light is out now too. what is the fix for this problem. could you tell me...

I would suspect that your main relay on the control board is shorted.

We see (and repair) this a lot. The problem is on the control panel, which we regularly repair nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid in about a week or so.

This failure often occurs when a cooktop bulb goes out and the filament shorts, or when the bulbs are removed or installed without first unplugging the oven from the power line. Either can cause such a failure on the controller.

This can often also affect the exhaust fan, cooling fan, turntable, and/or inside light operation, too.

Details of our service are at our Web site, along with a video showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

You might consider checking your door switches when you remove the controller. See this file.

Feel free to contact me directly with your brand, full model number and symptoms.

We're happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

No power in the microwave. It is as if you unplugged it. Is there an internal fuse in the unit? There is power to the unit. The unit shows nothing on the panel and when you open the door, no light comes...

If you look at the back of the oven there are usually small fuses or breakers back there. Check to see if that is the issue. Also if you haven't already make sure the wall outlet is functional.
