Hi, I have a 5 year old we16 that has suddenly refused to wash clothes. It will fill with water, but then just hums for a few seconds before going to sleep. If I select spin it will pump out and then spin for a while, but only anticlockwise. As soon as it gets to a point in the cycle that requires a clockwise drum rotation, it hums for about 2 secs then stops.
I have checked the motor brushes and they have about 1" left inside the holder when fitted, and there is no arcing. A year ago I had an F-10 fault show up but I traced that to a broken track on the main pcb, bridged it, and it has worked fine ever since. I have just had the pcb out again but can't see any breaks, burns or dry joints.
Any ideas gratefully received!

Hi, It is not throwing any codes now. I'm not sure what you mean by "motor coupling" - I have worked on electrical equipment in various jobs including ROV's in the offshore oil industry, but I'm not familiar with this usage. If you mean the electrical connections to the motor - I have taken them off and replaced them, they looked fine. If you mean the mechanical mountings of the motor, it is all like new under there. As I said the motor will run anticlockwise, but when the programme calls for clockwise rotation it just hums. I even tried urging the drum round with a stick while it was humming, but it didn't rotate of its own accord. I'm wondering if there is a triac / thyristor somewhere which controls the motor speed and direction, and if this could be faulty?
Thanks, D.

- Hi MidWest-Tech,
Thanks for getting back to me.
I'm afraid I am still unclear about the "motor coupling". You wrote "Well the motor coupling on a washer is exactly that" . My motor is bolted on to the bottom of the outer drum and the motor shaft has a grooved pulley on it which drives the belt which goes round the big wheel. There is nothing visible that I would describe as a coupling.
Can you explain it again s-l-o-w-l-y please ? I'm English!
I look forward to any info on the circuit board that you can come up with.
Thanks, D.

Since first posting this the machine has now started to give an F-08 fault on the display.

- "f-08 is a heater relay problem.Hope that helps.Thanks,Lee"
Not really :-) On the handwash cycle, the only program not requiring clokwise rotation, the heater will heat or not, as selected. Furthermore, how can a heater fault affect the spin cycle? D

Just letting you know thats what the f-08 code means. and professional service is recommended for that code.
Thanks,
Lee"
Thanks Lee. Unfortunately, "professional service" up here at 57N 4W means a guy will come and tell me I need a new pcb, £90 and £50 for fitting it. The defective component probably costs £1 tops once I can locate it. I am an electrical / mechanical engineer myself and hate being ripped off, which is why I came to FixYa in the first place. Sorry if I was a bit short with you - it wasn't intentional :-) D.
