Glenn, thank you for responding to my question on the bradford white hot water heater. It is an electric hot water heater, 7 years old. Our water is good in this area, not considered hard water. We do not have a water softener. Appreciate any advice you can give me.

How do I light my hot water heater?

It is pretty easy - make sure gas valve is open, change control know to pilot. Press the ignitor a few times and once pilot lights up switch control to warm or hot position.

Mineral deposits in line & aerator

We need more information, if we are to walk thru this problem to its solution-- so I have to ask a few questions:
1.) Any Water Softener in the system?
2.) If your water is 'hard'-- (meaning too many minerals, like Calcium)- the Hot water heater will cause the minerals to settle out, just due to the heating. This causes sediment to settle in the bottom of the HW tank-- And it sounds like you are getting this settling-out condition-- right?
3.) Are you on Well water?-- If city water-- are your neighbors using water softeners to reduce the 'hardness' of the water in your home?
Tell me more-- let's see if we can walk thru your Hot Water system, and see what it at the root cause of the minerals settling out. Mack B

I have a ecosense tankless water heater #rtg-74pvn-2 how far can i take the vent

Feb 2013
1) Rheem/EcoSense tankless product manual does not have specifications for length. Error 11 will let you know if venting is improper.
Often, tankless are installed outside because unobstructed venting is key for combustion of the amount of gas coming out of 3/4" gas line.
http://waterheatertimer.org/Troubleshoot-Rheem-Tankless-water-heater.html

2) Copy following link for Bradford White venting: Exactly same as Rheem, but more installation detail. No maximum lengths given.
For lengths greater than 5 feet, a condensate trap must be installed. Acidic water from hydrocarbon combustion will damage metal, and destroy heat exchanger inside tankless if water drips back into unit.
http://hometips.me/Tls/Venting-Bradford-White-tankless-gas.pdf

3) Copy following link for tank-type power vent tables:
Generally, the longer distance requires larger vent diameter, and there is max number of elbows and/or air-flow restrictions.

4) Otherwise call Rheem/EcoSense, and add comment saying what resources they offer.

Reem hot water 180 dvn water pressure drop

1) Copy following link for detailed troubleshoot walk-thru:
http://waterheatertimer.org/Low-hot-water-pressure.html

2) Today's new water heaters come with heat traps or heat trap inserts, so manufacturer can claim higher energy savings. But these things restrict water flow and clog, and reduce pressure, and whistle, and generally cause problems for some installations.

Bradford-white water heater wont heat water.the blower motor hums but wont blow.also, pilot light wont light,is this just a safety feature?

Water heater is not identified and gas valve is not known.
Review options below:

1) Add a comment and describe what gas control valve is on the water heater, and model number from label on side of unit. Include what you have tried so far.

2) Try unplugging water heater and see if water heater resets.
Disconnect blower from gas valve, then plug blower in to see it it operates.
This will eliminate or include blower as suspect.

3) Open following link to download service and product manuals to help troubleshoot exact model.

4) Open following link to identify gas valve.

Bradford White hot water heater - burner lights only 30 seconds

The slightly warm water makes me think of a thermostat problem. The fact that the heater is 10 years old I wonder how hard your water is. Calcium build up kills water heaters. But the yellow flame you mention could be the results of dirty orfices. May want to have a Pro look at that.
