Question about RCA DRC8295 DVD Recorder/VCR Combo

Problem with reading discs

I have had this player for about a year now. It started having problems gradually at first then worsened until it barely will recognize a disc anymore. When I put in a DVD, it doesn't matter if it's storebought, recorded, or a blank, the player will either not recognize that a disc is inserted or will say that there is a disc problem. I tested the discs in other dvd players and they work perfectly. Now it is to the point where i have to open and close the tray around 50 times or so for it to both recognize the disc and then be able to play it. Any solutions?

I opened up the case on the DVD Recorder later that day that I posted the problem. I figured out that there was a problem with the motor that drives the tray to open and raises the lens and laser up to read the disc. I discovered that the rubber band that drives the motor was slipping, so I just replaced the rubber band on it with another one that I had. That completely fixed all the problems it was having.

The laser pickup assembly is shot, over time the laser becomes weaker until it can no longer read the disc,it is time to retire the item, far cheaper to replace the entire unit.

Hello,
A common reason for dvd players to give you error messages like "bad disc", "incorrect disc", "disc not readable", etc is that the optical lens needs to be cleaned. Dust will build up over time and prevent the device from reading the discs properly. Discs that are dirty and have finger smudges or if the discs have scratches will also cause these errors. There are some common mechanical problems that will also cause disc reading problems which you can find in my tips and tricks, just click on the link to read more about them.
TRY THE FOLLOWING STEPS FIRST:
You can clean your dvd player two ways, manually or by using a dvd cleaning disc. The following link will provide you with detailed information for doing cleaning the optical lens. I would suggest that you use the cleaning disc because it is easier and much faster. You can also clean your dvd discs themselves using the information here.
I hope that this information helps you solve the problem and you get many more years of use from your device. I wish you all the best. Please let me know if you need further assistance and I will do my very best to help you.

If you would not mind, please rate my help. I would greatly appreciate it. Thank You.

Hitachi dvd player not reading all dvds

Hello, I'm here try and help your problem, first older DVD players only read certain disc formats, If you have your owners manuel to your DVD player it will tell you what types of discs the DVD player will play. There are seneral types of burnable disc's DVD -, DVD +, DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW, please looking in the owners manual for the types of discs that the player will read, also in the same secton it will tell the types of formats that it will read DVD Video, DVD ROM, and there is a few others, Next is when you burn DVD's the type of burner you have makes a difference. You will need to find out what format your DVD burn, burns to disc, some of the newer DVD players
read alot of the formats. I would start by finding out what your DVD burns first, then I would suggest buying a DVD player that will read that format. If you have anyother questions please feel free to post them, Thank You and have a great day.

Can not read disc

I mainly use my DVR to record TV shows on DVD-RAM discs (Panasonic brand or Maxell). I've had no problems with the DVD-RAM discs. However, today when I put a DVD-R disc in the recorder, I got an "Incompatible Disc" error message. I tried a second disc from the same set, and got the same message. I tried out some of the DVD-Rs that I recorded last year and I could read them. Tried a DVD-RAM. That was OK. So, I tried another DVD-R disc. That one is OK. I don't know if the problem is that these DVD-Rs are getting a little old (2 years??) or if the recorder is developing its own problems reading discs.

Staarting to not get past certain discs mennu screens.....

We have had out Toshiba P25-S509 for a very long time. It's a great laptop and watching DVDs with a wide screen was great; That is, until the CD/DVD player was no longer recognized by the computer. We took it in (still under warranty) to have it fixed, only to not work again after a couple of months.

Now YEARS have gone by and I have bought another Toshiba (M305D-S4831) which is great unless you try to reboot and it doesn't fully start up. That's for another review, not this one... So, back to the P25-S509 and YEARS later. We just received two 1GB memory cards, which are being used to replace the "stock" two 256 MB memory cards. Well, the computer is MUCH FASTER and THE DVD PLAYER FINALLY WORKS!!! Woo-Hoo! $98.00 investment in memory cards saved up from ditching the older Toshiba.

Hope this review helps someone out there that might have had the same problem.
