If you've upgraded from xp or another earlier version of Windows, you cannot do a recovery. Recovery only works on recovering the present system.
If you have upgraded I would suggest saving off all your important files to a DVD, flash drive or onto another partition and then format and reinstall xp or whatever you had before.

Its Operating System, not Operative System! You can download Windows Vista 30...

Hi.

Windows Vista is a Microsoft Operative System, and cannot be downloaded, it can only be purchased, as it must be installed using a valid license number that can only be found on a genuine Microsoft certificate of authenticity.

The Operative system is the main resident software to manage computer resource and interface with the user.
Once installed, the operative system will allow the user to use a computer. A computer without an operative system cannot be used.

Other examples of modern operative systems are: Windows 98, windows XP, Windows 7, Mac OS, Linux.

Microsoft, that made Vista, does not sell the software directly. Vista can only be purchased from third party distributors. Here an example: purchase vista.

For this reasons you will not find any Vista download available from Microsoft.

Different versions of Vista where made available for download for testing purpose. This will allow you the download of the full Vista installer file, that must be recorded onto CD after downloading.
Here a download:Windows Vista Download - Softpedia.

The file available on the link above will still not be enough to install Vista if you do not have a valid version of Vista purchased or installed before on the computer. You will still be asked for a valid installation key during setup. If your computer is licensed for Vista, the key will be printer on a sticker located on the computer. The installation key is composed by 5 groups of five characters codes, like in this example: xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx.
If you have no valid installation key, then you will need to purchase a genuine Windows Vista.

If you decide to upgrade to Vista you can check if you computer can support Microsoft Vista by using the Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor.

If you instead have Vista already installed, and you do not need Vista installer disk, but you only need to download Vista updates, you can use the following links:

Windows Vista home page

Microsoft Windows Update

Microsoft Download Center

Automatic restart my laptop.Windows vista

Hi,

If you are able to boot the computer in safe mode, you can disable the Automatic Restart from the Control Panel.

Open Control Panel.

Click on the System and Maintenance link.

If you're viewing the Classic View of Control Panel, you won't see this link.

Click on the System link.

In the task pane on the left, click the Advanced system settings link.

Locate the Start up and Recovery area and click on the Settings button.

In the Start up and Recovery window, locate and uncheck the check box next to Automatically restart.

Click OK in the Start up and Recovery window.

Click OK in the System Properties window.

You can now close the System window.

From now on, when a problem causes a BSOD or another major error that halts the system, the PC will not automatically reboot. Rebooting manually will be necessary.

If you're unable to fully start Windows Vista due to a Blue Screen of Death error, you won't be able to disable the automatic restart on system failure option as described in the steps above.

Try the steps below:

Just before the Windows Vista splash screen shown above appears, or just before your PC automatically restarts, press the F8 key to enter Advanced Boot Options.

You should now see the Advanced Boot Options screen.

Using the arrow keys on your keyboard, highlight Disable automatic restart on system failure and press the Enter key.

After disabling the automatic restart on system failure option, Windows Vista might continue to load. Whether or not it does depends on what kind of Blue Screen of Death or other problem Windows Vista is experiencing.

Since you disabled the automatic restart on system failure, Windows Vista will no longer force a restart when it encounters a Blue Screen of Death.

Now that you have the STOP Code associated with the Blue Screen of Death, you can troubleshoot the problem:

The following is the list of BSOD error codes with troubleshooting, you can find the troubleshooting steps using the error codes in the MS website also..

Hope this helped you. Please do rate me.

Thanks!!!!

Backup and recovery

Delete the System Recovery Files folder located at C:\System Recovery Files then try to run the backup.1.exe program again. I also found the you have to have the Backup.2.fbw file burned to a DVD before it will restore the files.
