I have the same problem. Would have to play with the switch to get it to come on then the switch broke and now can't use vacuum. Is the switch easy to get to if I take it apart?

Same problem. switch would spark while trying to turn it on, then it went dead altogether. I can feel the switch let loose and won't turn on or off now.

CAREFUL! This is how my problems started. The cheap switches (and wiring) Eureka is using in some models, especially my model) should provoke a lawsuit imo.
Here's my story, just in case it might help. Mine started with a problem very similar to your, i.e. flickering. If you take apart your handle (top part where switch is - two screws), you might see some fried wires. Anyway, my story ...
Had exactly the same problem with my upright Eureka Model 5893 bagless. Eventually, the handle would get hot, and finally it just quit. When handle was disassembled, the wires were melted and it was toast. Ordered a switch after talking to several repair men. Talked to Eureka, too, and they were absolutely no help. Cheap wiring and switch made in China. Good luck trying to find a switch. vacuum-depot.com has switches, so you might try there, but make sure you get the 3-prong switch (same switch used on Eureka's Genesis). It is Part #27871.

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. It sounds to me that you may have a bad switch or the worst scenario would be a bad motor and or armature, and the armature is almost the cost of the new motor, so I would replace the motor, but check the switch and the cord because sometimes the cord looks good but there might be broken wires inside the cord that you can’t see. If the vacuum is less than one year old the motor would be covered under the factory warranty if one year and maybe the switch as well. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.

Brushes do not spin when it is on low carpet you have to have the knob on high carpet for it to work.

That means that the belt is starting to wear. When the belt starts to stretch it can't turn the roller brush against the resistance of the carpet. The lower the setting the more resistance. You simply need to change the belt. Here is a link to the belt you need and to the manual:

That means that the belt2_bing.gif is starting to wear. When the belt starts to stretch it can't turn the roller brush against the resistance of the carpet and therefore doesn't pick up well. You simply need to change the belt. Here is a link to the belt you need and to the manual:
