Does it makes any kind of sound when you boot? Is the HDD frozen or is it password protected? If it makes a clicking sound when you boot the computer then the HDD pointer inside the HDD is stuck.
If you can get to the BIOS, you can delete any password from the BIOS. If the HDD does not shows up in the BIOS, then your HDD is probably fry.
Replace the hard drive. It is very difficult to fix the hdd password. You can try to detach the hdd, and leave it for 1 day. Also detach the ac adapter and the main battery. The next day, install hdd and restart the laptop.

Yes removing the BIOS battery will flash it to default. The battery looks like a small silver disk about the size of a quarter. You'll have to pull/pry spring tab(s) to release it and keep it out for a couple of minutes before replacing it and connecting the power back.
