Playing a DVD on Phase Linear UV7

I have the parking break wire connected properly, however you must put the parking break on and off in a sequence that I do not know. It is not discribed in the manual. I did it once by randomly putting the break on and off, but I forgot what I did.

No there is a sequence. I found what it is and posted it here. The player even asks for a sequence. The older players did not have a sequence, however, people would bypass that by grounding the wire. Now to bypass it you would have to put a switch in to toggle the sequence.

    Hey,

I believe i have the same problem except the solution posted doesnt seem to work, the symptoms of my problem is that as soon as i pop a dvd into the player the blue screen comes up and says i have to engage the break sequence to access the movie and ive tried the sequence from my manual and from the solution posted but have had no luck.

You have to insert a DVD then put the parking brake on for 1~2 seconds, then put the brake off for 1~2 seconds, then back on. If you take longer than 2 seconds or less than 1 second then you have to wait 10 seconds to try again.

It must start out in the off position and then when you want to watch the video put it on. There should not be any more to it than that. You may have an intermittant connection on the parking brake wire that makes you think there is some type of sequence because the first time you set the parking brake it did not work. I would check and make sure the parking brake is always engaging the wire to ground when the parking brake is pressed.

Thanks for that info Korby, I have been repairing car and home audio for nearly 18 years, but not Phase Linear. I assumed it would be the same as the Pioneers, Kenwoods, JVC, and Panasonics that I repair at an authorized service center for all of those.

It goes to show, you can always keep learning and nobody is above making a mistake. I really appreciate that you did not give me a bad rating for giving you the wrong advise. Your a stand up guy, thanks.

If you ever need some help or information on something I actually work on, I would be mor ethan happy to assit you.

    Have a great fourth,

    Dave

Want dvd to play while driving its played before i hit reset button now it does'nt play

You need to hook up the pink wire to a power wire. I myself have a switch in my cig outlet (which ran blue lights i had inside my car) running it so if i ever got pulled over i just pull out the switch and they cant prove i was playing a movie.

Car in dash cd/dvd player

Most in car dvd players require a connection to the parking brake so it will not play a dvd while you are driving (in dash only). The easiest way around it is to run a 12v wire to the lead of the parking brake wire on the dvd player. With a constant 12v it should play when the ignition is in the on position.

HAVING PROBLEM

DVD head units have one extra wire in their wiring harnesses, compared to a standard CD head unit. On mine, it's a peach-colored wire, and is the activation wire for the DVD feature. During the installation, the instructions call for this wire to be tapped into the emergency brake indicator light wire. The reason is this:

The e-brake indicator light is what is called a "ground complete" circuit. That means that the bulb always has power applied, but when you pull the brake, that puts a ground to the wire and completes the circuit, allowing it to illuminate. The head unit sees this ground, and activates the DVD player.

In my Jensen unit, I simply ran this wire to a ground (I used a screw near the fuse box), and I put a switch on the wire, so I could break the ground contact at will. Jensen calls for a procedure to activate DVD playback. In their instructions, they tell you to select DVD from the option menu, and when the "lawyer screen" comes up (the one warning you to park before you watch a movie), you release the e-brake for 3-5 seconds, and then reapply it. To simulate that with the switch I used, I leave the switch closed (activated), and select DVD. Then I flip the switch "off" for 3-5 seconds, and flip it back "on". This tricks the head unit into thinking I put the e-brake off for a few seconds and then put it back on, and the movie will start. Then I can drive away.

Basically, ground the wire that is used for DVD activation, and put a switch inline on it. Then you can break and reapply the ground in whatever manner is required by the manufacturer of your head unit. If there is no off/on sequence with yours, as there is with mine, simply ground the wire to a screw inside the dashboard and you're done.
