Unless you can see the little safe mode text in all 4 corners then it sounds like the computer IS in regular windows, but the video card drivers are gone. Try re-installing the video card drivers from Dell for that particular video card (there are several possibilities) and see if that helps. It is possible the video card is going bad, but usually re-installing the video drivers works.
This could be a sign of other problems too- start with the video drivers and see if that helps. If it does not- I'm guessing the operating system is corrupt, virused, or the video card is going bad.

hmm- make SURE you get an original oem pa-10. I have had really bad luck with the cheap Chinese knockoffs. There are also a LOT of fake pa-10's out there. The pa-10 is the only adapter that truly works on this laptop, although a pa-12 will do in a pinch it will not charge the battery. If the adapter does not look identical- it is probably a fake. That rubber strap not being there on the adapter is a dead giveaway it is a fake.

My safe mode has been on 3 days,I have tried to turn off power, and restart. Also tried to turn and tap power off.Any other suggestions how to get off,and why did it appear

A laptop or computer in safe mode normally suggests a corrupt file caused by switching off before it has closed down properly. Run safe mode and check for faulty files.

Sometimes it helps to upgrade your OS ...from say (a)4.2.0.442 to say (b)5.0.0.1015. I was getting tons of uncaught applications on my 9550.I upgraded from (a) to (b) and the problem is gone.Along with battery issues. Can you try that?Your carrier must have OS upgrades for your device on their website.Good luck!

Based on your description, it is recommended that you refer to the following information:
You can start (or restart) HP (COMPAQ) appears, stop clicking F8 keys the view safe mode is normal.
1 If safe mode normal, you can turn to test the following method:
1) Device Manager to roll back the driver or reinstall the driver test.
2) the new account in safe mode and test disable startup items (click on the lower left hand corner of the keyboard and the Windows logo key R calling Run, type msconfig command, go to "Start" to remove unwanted boot automatically start the program in front of the check mark ).
3) backup data, reinstall the system.
2 If safe mode is not working properly, you can try to save important files after format hard drive to reinstall the operating system under to see if you can solve the problems you encounter.

My laptop window vista is having problem to open the window suddenly Iam unable open my computer or any window prog So pls suggest me the error

While the computer is powering press F8 in 1 seconds intervals until you get the Advanced boot menu.
Select Safe Mode with Networking and press enter
Once it is booted up try to navigate around. If it is running at normal speeds, I would say your computer is infested with viruses If it is still running really slow and won't open anything I would say you need to wipe out the computer and re-install windows. Most likely your operating system is corrupted You can try the following to fix operating system problems without a re-install
Open a command prompt (Windows Key, then type cmd ) Type chkdsk /f hit enter, it will tell you the drive is locked do you want to run on next boot. Press Y and enter.
Type sfc /SCANNOW then hit enter. Let it run though and then reboot your computer for the chkdsk to run.
If it is still really slow in safe mode then it's a re-install of windows

IF NOT SLOW IN SAFE MODE (Do this) You can try and clean up viruses in safe mode with the following free programs Run the Full Scan and remove any viruses/spyware you find MalwareBytes (http://www.malwarebytes.org/) SpyBot (http://www.safer-networking.org/en/home/index.html) Spyware Doctor (http://www.pctools.com/compare/protection/?ref=spyware_doctor_antivirus_compare_winningchallenger&gclid=CN2rsMjwlasCFQJOgwodCUtevw)
Are just a few.
I typically run through about 12 different programs on an infected computer. Then you would want to purchase some good antivirus These are the Top 3 http://www.webroot.com/En_US/index.html http://usa.kaspersky.com/ http://www.bitdefender.com/

MY Dell laptop running XP will run in safe mode but shut down after 2 minutes in normal operation. When I start it defaults to safe mode but allows me to restart and comes up temporairialy in normal mode...

Hi Friend, If your system only boot up in safemode, you should try a Clean Boot of your machine to help given steps, 1- click Start, and click Run. The Run window appears(From the safemode desktop) 2-. In the Open box, type msconfig and then click OK. The System Configuration Utility appears. 3- go to the General tab and click Selective Startup radio button. 4- Un-check all options with the exception of "Load System Services" & "Use Original BOOT.INI". 5- Click Apply, and then click Close. 6- When prompted to restart the computer, click Yes. Now if it boot up in normal mode you should get a message to the effect of the changes you just made in msconfig, don't worry about it, but make sure you put a check in the box that says "Do not show me this message again" and click the "OK" button.
Thanks,

My HP Pavilion laptop will not boot.

Usually the message about low virtual memory is because there isn't enough RAM and it was using up all the designated space on the hard drive as Virtual memory. (Uses a part of the hard drive like RAM)

That shouldn't account for being unable to boot into any Windows options though.

The one trick with HP computers, you can try is to take the battery out, make sure the Laptop isn't plugged in with an AC adapter then press and hold the power button in for 10 seconds with no power going to the laptop. This is doing a power drain. Then put the battery back in and try to power on and boot up the computer.

When you choose safe mode, does the computer ask which operating system you want to boot into and does it give you the option to choose "Recovery Console"? Or is there an option on the screen with the safe mode options to Choose your Operating System? If not then the recovery console wasn't installed. If you can choose the recovery console, you might be able to replace the failed files that are not allowing the computer to boot into any version of Windows. Unfortunately, the computer isn't reporting which files are the problem, winlogon.exe/userinit.exe/etc.

You can get a hardrive enclosure at a computer store that allows you to put the laptop hard drive in the enclosure, then plug the enclosure into another computer with a USB cable then you can copy the sensitive data onto the other computer.

If you aren't comfortable taking the Hard Drive out yourself, you can take the laptop to a computer store, and they will take the Hard Drive and hook it up to a second computer as a Slave (Secondary Hard Drive) and copy the data over for you
