Question about Sony VAIO (PCWA-A200)

Screen turns solid color

I have a problem with my Vaio FS-742/W.
My screen will sometimes turn a solid color (red, orange, black, etc.). When I hit the power button to hibernate it will quickly revert back to normal before doing so. As soon as it wakes up everything is fine.

Does anyone know why it's doing this?

my screen turned red once so i restarted the laptop and everything was fine. i used my computer for the rest of the night with no problems, then i turned it off and went to bed.

when i turned it on the next morning windows loaded properly and everything looked good untill i tried to log in to vista. I put my password and then the login screen stayed for about 30 seconds untill the screen went solid red.

i have had this same problem every time i try to use my laptop ever since!

Hi, Sounds more like a glitch in the movie file you were watching which caused the video problem. Something like this is rather common while watching CDs with scratched surface. Since there is no apparent problem after rebooting, then you probably need not be worried. However, if this frequently happens, then you probably should have the memory upgraded or at least checked. Good luck.

Mylaptop turns on and runs but the screen is completely black. What do I do? The power button is on and the battery charging light is on but the screen doesnt come on at all. I can hear the laptop booting...

Connect an external monitor then power up both the monitor and laptop. If you get display on external monitor, you have 3 possible problem. First, LCD is bad, Second, CFL on your LCD is bad and Third, the cable connecting your motherboard and LCD is bad or the connection is loose. It is better to replace the whole LCD assembly than to repair.

If you have external monitor but still can't get a display, your problem may be on the motherboard.

Sony vaio hangs on start up

Try to restore your PC.

Solution:
  1. after pressing the power button, start pressing "F8" before the windows startup screen appears.
  2. a menu will come out (in black and white) then select "safe mode"
  3. the PC will boot up in safe mode and you must login with administrator privilege.
  4. click start and go to:
-Programs
-Accessories
-System tools
-System restore
5. select on the dates that your system was still running
normally.

If this solution helps you, please rate me.

Thank you.

I dropped my vaio P11 and now the screen is red or mauve. Isn there asny solution?

Dropping your PC is never a good thing. I'm sorry, but you probably damaged something inside the laptop itself (more than likely the monitor)and there probably isn't going to be any solution that you can do to fix it yourself. I would suggest taking it to a qualified technician and have them look at it. Its going to cost $$$ so you need to decide do you want it fixed or just scrap it an buy an new one altogether? Good luck, sorry I was unable to provide happier news.

Display monitor

Hi,

Assuming that there is no hardware fault, this is indicative that your PC's Screen Resolution and/or Screen Refresh Rate are higher than what the monitor can display.

To correct, start your PC in Safe Mode, go to Display Properties (right click on any clear area of your desktop, click on Properties, click on Settings tab, move Screen resolution towards left or 800 X 600 and lower Color quality to 16 bit) and lower down all settings (including Advanced/Monitor/Screen refresh Rate). Reboot.

Once in Normal Mode, do the same again and increase settings one step at a time and click OK/Apply. In the event that the display disappears again, hit escape and/or revert back to last known good setting(s).

Hope this be of help.idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.
