Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. My question is how old is the Hoover vacuum? If it less than a year you should really see an Authorized Hoover vacuum cleaner dealer that the problem might be covered under a factory warranty. This should not be happening and it sound to me like there is a clog somewhere in the vacuum fill area that is causing it to do this to you and the vacuum. You are lucky that you have a thermal switch that does shut it off. If not and it is over the one year factory warranty then you should see a local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or contact Hoover Cust Serv @ the website and or phone 3 listed below. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.

MY HOOVER 199W JUST STOPPED WORKING.............I'VE CHECKED THE FUSE AND EMPTIED THE DUST....STILL NOT WORKING...ANY SUGGESTIONS PLEASE THANKS Veronica

It could be a thermal breaker that goes automatic if the filter is full of fine-dust and the rpm of the motor becomes to high and the heat dissipation will acces the thermo breaker replace dust back AND filter, second there could be if the brushes are become to short the autostop can be activated (you see a little dark pin with micro spring in the brush ) in one of the 2 carbon brushes. if so replace the carbon brushes .
A Switch or cable defect (measure it)

Hoover not sucking

Remove all filters and try the suction on your hand, NOT THE FLOOR!
Filters are vital to keeping the motor working.
Most vacuum sucking probs are a result of a clogged filter or filters. Sometimes, hoses also. Or a full bag.
Remove all filters, clean them thoroughly, check hose for obstruction.
Use another vacuum to remove dust/dirt (or an air compressor) from the dirty filters.
That's first step.

Can I wash the filter in my dishwasher?

I would not recommend it. It's not good for the filter. It may cause it to disintegrate. Getting the fine dust wet can cause it to clog the pores of the filter restricting the airflow. I would not want any of the nasty contaminants that collect in a filter to possibly be able to contaminate any items like plates, cups, silverware, etc. that are used to eat.

HI, it's Jim from Crucial Vacuum!

Your Hoover may be losing suction in the hose and having an issue with the brush roll due to a clog within the vacuum, or possible debris stuck on the brush roll itself. Here's some tips that will help.

First off, if your brush roll just keeps turning be sure to turn off your vacuum before examining it. In regards to the lack of suction in the hose there may be a clog in the vacuum itself.

After every use, make sure to empty your unit's dust cup. Allowing for fine dust and debris to rest in your unit's dust cup for a long period may cause your unit to become clogged, which leads to poor or even no suction, for the hose as well.

It is recommended to wash and clean your unit's filter weekly. To do so, empty your filter screen outdoors to take off any excess debris and then clean under running water until the water comes out clean. Allow the filter screen to fully dry before inserting it back into the unit. This may take up to several hours. Be sure to allow it to FULLY dry.

Lets look at the hose itself. Stretch the hose out entirely to see if there are any clogs within. A handy way to unclog your hose is to use a broom handle or coat hanger. Make sure the coat hanger is a plastic one. You don't want to tear the walls of your hose.

As for the brush roll itself. Is the belt intact? After usage the belt will stretch out and lessen the tension on the brush roll. This could be causing the brush roll to have a lack of resistance against it. You want to be sure the belt is on there nice and tight. Also, manually spin the brush roll to see if there are any clogs or debris stuck within.

How can I get my DC26 working?!

They can cut out due to overheating. Although you say you have 'cleared' the filters, they should ideally be washed as they can clog with very fine dust and cause overheating due to lack of air flow. Once a machine cuts out due to overheating it can take maybe half an hour (or longer) to cool down enough to work again.

My vax power 8, 2200 watts 300 air watts 4L capacity upright Hoover is brand new, I emptied out the dust/dirt collecter and cleaned the motor filter yesterday for the first time, i switched it on and all...

I had the same problem. It looks like the seal on the lid on the bottom of the cylinder has fallen out when it was emptied. There is no longer a proper vacuum being created so you don't get the cyclone effect and the dirt doesn't collect where its supposed to. it just clogs up the filter. I put sellotape to seal the lid and it works fine.

do not put the filter in water, it will ruin it. if banging out the filter did not work than you should probably replace it, sheet rock dust is very fine and will easily clog most filters.

did you replace the filter? when you remove the dust bin there is a small filter that needs to be cleaned, or replaced. You can buy a maintenance kit that replaces the brushes and filters as well, its good to replace them all regularly

Hoover Z-400 - Hepa Filter

These filters should be changed at least once a year, they get clogged up and won't clean out. So I would try a new filter and go from there, make sure there are no clogs in the hose and down below where the dirt inlet is.
