Question about PC Desktops

1 Answer

6-29-2008 I have a Maxtor One Touch 4 Mini that I use to back up files on my desk top and also want to use it to transfer the same files back and forth with my laptop. Both the Desk Top and the Lap Top are Windows XP-pro but my IBM ThinkPad A21m Laptop doesn't recognize the One Touch. When the One Touch is plugged into a USB port the lamp on the drive lights up, after a several seconds it starts to blink and a message pops up telling me that this device can perform faster if you connect to a Hi Speed USB 2 Port. This is the same message I receive with my Desk Top and the drive works perfectly when plugged into it. How do I start trying to solve the communication problem? Thanks Glenn gamafay@aol.com

After following the on-line instructions I replaced the USB cable that came with the Maxtor with a difrent one and now the drive works as it should. I do not know what the problem is with the original USB cable.
Thanks for the follow-up

This depends upon the feature of your PC . Some PCS allow you to boot from and copy data from another USB source.

This is not the best way to do it.

I suggest you burn an image of your drive to DVD (NERO)

I am not familiar with .e01 files...

You should read the manual on you back software.

My Mac laptop running OS X 10.5.5 is not recognizing my Maxtor One Touch 4 Mini 320gb external drive. I plug it in, the light on the drive comes on, but nothing else happens.

check to make sure the drive is formatted to the FAT file system as NTFS file system is not recognised on Macs (check the drive on a PC and have the PC format the drive to the FAT file system)

Maxtor one touch 4 mini makes chirping sounds while trying to link up with the computer , does this for aprox a minute then stops , the conmputer dosnt see the drive.

Usualy this thing happens with my WD Elements drive when the cable is not connected properly or some dust went on the connector, try using a paintbrush and get rid of the dust, sometimes the usb cable's end is corrodated and that's why id doesn't work properly anymore, sometimes it connects and a bit later suddenly it dissapears, this case try another cable. And also a good idea to try out the drive on a different USB port.
If none of these works, try it on a different computer and see what happens there, if it's not working over there with any of these tricks than it's time to bring it back to the shop and use your warranty to get a new one.

Maxtor onetouch 4 mini 160gb used as back up

Yes you do. If you don't have them they are available from the manufacturer but for some reason they want you to email them with the serial number of the drive.

I NEED TO KNOW HOW TO TRANSFER ALL OF MY FILES TO THE MAXTOR ONE TOUCH #3 THAT I'VE PURCHASED BECAUSE MY COMPUTER IS TRYING TO DELETE FILES TO CREATE SPACE

Use the Windows Explorer and highlight all the files to move and select (right-click) cut. highlight the drive to get files and select (right-click) paste.
U can create new folder prior to paste and then paste files to this folder. Use the file on menu to create new folder.

Help with Maxtor onetouch 4

The Maxtor OneTouch 4 Mini is a portable hard drive, with USB interface.

What you have to do is, just connect your Maxtor OneTouch 4 MiniT to the one end of USB cable, after that insert he other end to your laptop USB por.

Wait for few moments your operating system will read your new connected portable hard drive.

After that you can find a new drive letter in your My Computer, thats for your portable disk drive.

thanks
