Question about Computers & Internet

I paid my subscription last April - I have the confirmation and the amount has been deducted from my bank, but I am still getting popup reminders and I am afraid that I am not being covered for any lurking viruses. Your help would be much appreciated.

It's Symantec - providing Norton anti virus software. Their contact phone numbers and websites lead nowhere.

  • bourgdubost Jun 30, 2008

The problem in detail. I pay a yearly subscription to Symantec for them to provide me with the Norton AntiVirus 2008 Upgrade (Windows XP/Vista) (39,12 Eur) plus Extended Download Service (5,21Eur) The subscription falls due in April each year. I paid the required sum, 50,98 Eur (incl. tax) on line on April 22nd.2008. I have the confirmation,
#1641875123, and I know that that amount has been withdrawn from my Mastercard account. However I am still getting popups, telling me that my subscription is overdue and that I may not be covered for incoming viruses. I have tried going to the Symantec website, but all I can find is information about buying their products - no help when something has gone wrong. I tried ringing their helpline in Dublin, but was told that 'the number has not been recognised'
I have come to computers late in life. (I am over 70) and get utterly phazed when they start doing as they please!

You don't really have to pay for a anti virus software - I've been using avast home for 3-4 years now and I've been very secure. IT has stopped every virus coming my way.

I really recommend removing Norton and installing avast. it is updated dayly. After you register it you get one year license to it, which is all free.

In my expert opinion avast home is better than norton which you pay for.

Symantec handles technical support through their customer service
department accessible at the following number:

You must cycle through their automated menus initially, but will be
given the option to talk to a a technical support representative who
may assist you. They say they offer technical support for the
installation and use of their products.

    or try this

    Call Symantec Enterprise Sales

    • Call 1-800-745-6054 to speak with a sales agent.
actually only very big organizations use paid Anti virus softwares.

for home and small business purpose you can use free anti virus softwares.

there are many free versions on net and can be downloaded for free.
they can be kept updated daily for new anti virus updates.

and hence i would advice you to go for a free software.

i use Mcafee Anti virus enterprise edition.
it needs no payments and fee.
highly secure and very efficient then normal editions.

if you want i can upload one for you and give the link for downloading.

please respond if you need one.

    thank you

    sweet rascal

Tuesday is not a bank holiday, only Friday and Monday are. If you usually get paid on Tuesday then you should still get paid on Tuesday as usual unless your place of work had notified you otherwise.

My son has a student loan but I pay the loan can I claim the interest

Topic 456 - Student Loan Interest Deduction
You may be able to deduct interest you pay on a qualified student loan. Generally, the amount you may deduct is the lesser of $2,500 or the amount of interest you actually paid. It is subject to a phaseout, which means the amount of the deduction gradually decreases and phases out completely if and when your modified adjusted gross income (MAGI) amount reaches the annual limit.
You claim this deduction as an adjustment to income, so you do not need to itemize your deductions on Form 1040, Schedule A (PDF), Itemized Deductions.
You can claim the deduction if all of the following apply:
  • You paid interest on a qualified student loan in tax year 2015
  • You are legally obligated to pay interest on a qualified student loan
  • Your filing status is not married filing separately
  • Your MAGI is less than a specified amount which is set annually, and
  • You or your spouse, if filing jointly, cannot be claimed as dependents on someone else's return
A qualified student loan is a loan you took out solely to pay qualified higher education expenses. See Publication 970, Tax Benefits for Education, and the Form 1040 Instructions (PDF) to determine if your expenses qualify.
If you file a Form 2555 (PDF), Foreign Earned Income, Form 2555-EZ (PDF), Foreign Earned Income Exclusion, or Form 4563 (PDF), Exclusion of Income for Bona Fide Residents of American Samoa, or if you exclude income from sources inside Puerto Rico, refer to Worksheet 4-1, Student Loan Interest Deduction Worksheet in Publication 970, instead of the worksheet in the Form 1040 Instructions.
If you paid $600 or more of interest on a qualified student loan during the year, you will receive a Form 1098-E (PDF), Student Loan Interest Statement, from the entity to which you paid the student loan interest.
For more information about the student loan interest deduction and how your MAGI affects the deduction amount, refer to Publication 970.

Subject: Information on your declined payment

[img src="" alt="PayPal" border="0">[img src="" alt="" border="0">Dear Mary Plumisto,
Unfortunately, you\'ve hit your initial PayPal sending limit of $10,000.00 USD. That\'s why your recent payment was declined.

Your sending limit is the maximum amount of money you can send or use for purchases before you need to become Verified.
Why do I need to verify my account?

We place initial limits on all accounts to increase security and help
prevent fraud. Once you link and confirm a bank account or get approved
for PayPal credit, your account will be Verified and you\'ll be able to
make as many payments as you like with PayPal.
How do I get Verified and lift my sending limit?

  1. Log in to your PayPal account at and click Get Verified at the top of the page.

  2. Follow
the instructions to link your bank account to your PayPal account.
We\'ll deposit 2 small amounts in your bank account to confirm that it\'s

  3. Check your bank statement in 2-3 days and note the 2 amounts. Then log back in to your PayPal account and enter these amounts.
