I'd like to replace the Alpine CDA-9833 (in my 2004 WRX) with a new Alpine CDA105Ri so I can connect an iPhone 4.
Question: Will I be able to take advantage of the wiring already in place for the old CDA-9833, and thereby make the installation relatively easy?

For most alpine unit there is a separate unit to control the iPhone and is very easy is just a plug and play connection.
Find a compatible unit for your deck.
You check the radio fuse in the fuse panel? The wire connections are right? Check the Owners Manual for other details or troubleshooting: ALPINE CDA-9813
Remove the face, and trimring plastic. There are slots on either side that you put the Alpine unlocking keys into (came with your headunit new) then slide the chassis out. If you don't have keys - you can use a small allen wrench - or buy them at best buy etc. A local alpine dealer will probably let you borrow his keys as a good business practice.

your ipod might be too new,and your cd player too old the alpine cda 9883 is a 2007 model what kind of ipod do you have,if uyou have an older ipod and got the new itunes9 then try downloading an older version of itunes from itunes.com .....good luck
when mine does that it is down to the connection of the face to the head unit, push it firmer or remove and replace. it may be that the connection is worn.
Check the face plate pins and the deck side for build up, you can scrape them w/fingernails to clean any excess dirt etc. off them, then replace the face. That's about all you can do. If the faceplate LCD is bad you can by a new one, generally 150-200 for a new face. Check with an Alpine dealer, most good custom shops are actually very helpful.Best of luck
