I have managed to install a Dell version of xp but i note the wireless internet light is not on and I can not even use the ethernet port either to access internet. I presume other ports are not working either. what can i do? please help, perhaps you can send me a cd to set up xp pro. please can you help?

I have 2 HDD's in my PC - both with Win XP Prop

Boot.ini is correct, but looks default is booting from Disk2 and partition 1 which is your G:\ 500 GB.

Try Copying boot.ini from c:\boot.ini to g:\boot.ini It might help

In your example I see missing "\" after partition(1), may be typing mistake, but in real time can generate error.

You boot.ini looks exactly same in both drive c:\ & G:\

[boot loader]
timeout=10
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(2)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(2)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="GUY DRIVE XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect

Note: boot.ini will be hidden and readonly file. You need to unhide the file and remote the read only option and then only you will be able to save the boot.ini file

Hope this helps

Installing of windows xp pro with caldera dos

Sounds like your not booting up to the CDROM that you XP PRO disk is in you booting to the hard drive .... what you need to do is go into your bios (usually this is the DEL key, maybe F2, or F10), you will need to look at the screen as it boots up to know for sure... it will say something like Press DEL to Enter Setup. Under the boot menu choose to boot to the CDROM first... it has you put the CDROM and Hard drives in a boot order... ofcourse make sure CDROM is first. Save the Bios usually by hitting the ESC key after making the needed changes and then it will ask you if you want to Save, ... yes you do want to SAVE Changes. Good Luck!!! I hope this works for you!!!

Can't repair bootsector in XP PRO

You can try this, with the pc running, open case,touch the metal case with one hand and the other hand unplug the drive. Now shut down
the system,unplug the system and hit the power button until the lights die. Plug in the drive and reboot the pc, go into bios and go to
boot. Check to see the drive is listed boot order. reboot and see if it boots.

If you can get into user account you can set admin password, then try restore cd then run fixmbr in dos.

If you can, get HDD Regenerator, and you can check the drive for errors, them run it again and repair them if possible.

But no, most of the time something causes the file to corrupt and lose boot not a bad sector on the hard drive.

Windows XP will not boot

Hi there, my name is Alex and Im here to help solve your problem.

It could be a number of problems.

1: Have you installed any new hardware or software? This can cause some conflictions. If there is any new hardware you have installed and your PC is constantly rebooting, then remove that hardware and try booting. If you have recently installed new software and getting the loop, then start windows in safe mode by pressing F8 before it boots windows. If you can access windows in safe mode, then uninstall any new software you may have added.

2: It could be you need a new power supply. They are very cheap to buy and I would recommend a qualified technician to install it for you

3: Your pc may be infected with a virus and has affected the boot file. Try to repair windows by using the windows xp disk. Insert the disk and run using the CD. You will then go through a few blue screens and press R to repair your windows xp installations

I hope this information has helped. Please let me know if you have any questions or further problems
