Question about Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 1: Windows

1 Answer

Cannot Head Mic-In Audio

Well, I tried your suggestion but when I get to the screen you are talking about, the only option is "INTERNAL SPEAKER/HEADPHONE." There are no other options.

Help! This is ridiculous. I would have never bought this laptop if I would have realized that a MIC IN and LINE IN are different. This computer (HP Pavillion dv6000) doesn't come with a LINE IN.

You can use the mic in like a line in just have to turn the volume up on the source or use a program to amplify the data in post processing

Aiptek GSV 1080P HD Camcorder external mic feature won't work.

Possibly an impedance mis-match - check in both manuals.

When I try to talk the other person can't hear me but I can hear them

Your mic may be muted. Click on the Volume icon in the right bottom corner of the screen and remove the tick mark in the box for Mute Mic. Your microphone would be in action after that.

I can't activate my internal mic, and am not certain if I have one or not,

your product specs can be found here

below under TECHNICAL SPECS in audio you can see that you system is supposed to come with a built in mic.

go into system preferences, (sound panel in the OS settings, select input device, input levels), see if you get any feed back from input level, see it's also muted or turned all the way down and adjust as needed
if no feedback seen on input level check if the mic holes have any dust in them, clear the dust as needed.

do you remember ever using your mic? where do you need the mic to be activated, see if there's any configuration that you need to do under tools or options for that application

has your computer ever being disassambled?, any repairs? that may have cause the mic to be disconnected internally (if you don't see any input level feed back when talking close to the mic openings and if it's not muted)?

there's a chance that there's a hardware problem, I've heard about wiring wear out causing mic to stop functioning,

a last thing you want to try is a type of hard reset (see here), this is a last resort. if this does not work, it's fair to assume that you have a hardware problem and if there's no warranty on the ibook you may want to just simply get a usb handset (mic and head piece) for your mic needs..

You will need to go into your sound properties, you can do this by clicking on the speaker Icon thats down by the clock (lower rights hand side of your screen) that should bring up sliders for everything.
Their is also other options and advanced options you may need to enable that could be specific to your devices. but the main thing here would be for you to disable the one mic and enable the one you want and also possibly lower its sensitivity levels.

Built in Mic?

well, to find out if your computer has a mic open up the audio mixer (double click the speaker in the right hand side of you screen), if you do not see your microphone, go to Options>Properties, and select "microphone", then go to options, advanced controls, under microphone, if you see a "advanced" button, click it (if you dont see it, there is no internal mic), if you see Mic2 Select, you probably have a internal mic. Another way to find out if you have a internal mic is to go to the sound recorder, and see if you can record your self, However if your going to be using skype, i recommend you get an external mic
