Purchased Canoscan650u some time ago. Can't find software and driver disc. As I have reinstalled windows XP2 recently. would like to continue using my scanner. How would I go about acquiring another cd?

Unfortunately, someone from the outside cannot handle this issue for you. Only you can register your printer from your end and you need to handle that through the Vendors website - regardless of where you downloaded the patch from. Registering your printer isn't to establish ownership and its not a one time activity. The computer will think the printer is a new accessory each time you reconnect it after not using it for a while or when you uninstall and reinstall the software for it. To get rid of the pop up messages, follow the prompts and continue on to the vendors website to complete your information again. This will stop the messages. I hope that this helps?

Most likely the Software/Driver disc that came with your unit is corrupted. Uninstall the currently installed drivers and try to use the following direct links from their site:

Hi. You can bypass the digital certificate if your computer needs a digitally signed device driver to continue. Just go to Start Menu > right click on My Computer > Properties > Hardware Tab > Driver Signing > choose either ignore or warn. Try running the installation software again. Hope this helps.

You may want to reinstall the printer software to correct this.
The drivers will be different and the software may not run the same due to Vista update.

First check whether you are able to scan from hp solution center.

then check whether you are able to scan from ms paint.

to check: open paint, click on file-->from scanners and camera.
if it is scanning then proceed to the following steps or else uninstall the software and reinstall it



Step 1:

  1. Click Start .
  2. In the Start Search text box, type msconfig and press Enter .
  3. On the User Account Control window, click Continue . The System Configuration Utility window displays.
  4. Click the Startup tab.
  5. Search the list for HP Digital Imaging Monitor . If HP Digital Imaging Monitor is not on the list, the driver was not correctly installed or a custom install was used. Proceed to step three to uninstall and reinstall the software.
  6. Select the HP Digital Imaging Monitor check box.
  7. Click Apply , and then click Close .
  8. Click Yes to restart.

Step 2:

    1. Open the HP Solution Center. Use one of the following methods to open the HP Solution Center.
    2. On the Windows desktop, double-click the HP Solution Center icon.
    • On the taskbar, click Start , Programs , or All Programs , click HP , and then click HP Solution Center .
    1. If more than one HP device is installed, click the tab for the All-in-One product. The HP Solution Center shows only the functions, settings, and support options that are appropriate for the selected HP product.
    2. Click Settings .
    3. Click Scan Settings and Preferences .
    4. Click Scan to... Setup .
    5. Click the Destination List tab.
  • If the Front Panel Destination List is empty, continue with this procedure. If the Front Panel Destination List contains valid scan destinations, proceed to step three to uninstall and reinstall the software.
  • Click each program to include on the Scan To list.
  • Click the Add arrow.
  • Click OK .
  • Scan a document using the Scan To button on the front panel.
  • If the scan fails, try to scan using the HP Solution Center Scan button.

  • If the above steps doesnt solve your problem, please uninstall the software and reinstall it.

    Gazzards, First, what application are you printing from? Some applications (TextEdit for example) modify the size of the print job (scaling) to fit the size if the window on the screen. So, if I open TextEdit and type "THIS IS MY TEXT" and print it, it's fair. If I resize the window to full screen by clicking the green circle and reprint (with no other changes) the text comes out minute. If you've only tested one application printing, try another. Another bit of printing information in Mac OS X: You can manage printers in a different way using your browser and pointing to this URL: http://localhost:631/printers/ I use this to print a test page for printers, and it's a good test for your situation because it does not involve the print dialog settings. Just find the printer you use and click the "Print Test Page" button next to it. Does it come out the correct size? Please let me know if this helps.
