Check thermostat since unit is working but is shutting off prematurely.

White smoke means steam and that would be caused by a leak in the heat exchanger coil of water in the fuel.

sounds like air in the system. check for air vents and open till steady stream of water comes out. To do this you must have an automatic fill valve.

Fan Thermostat stuck, defective. Replace same.

It will run off of an aquastat

Try and up the flow rate of cold water feed to boiler mains pressure there is an adjuster on cold feed bottom of boiler
