Question about GE 16.7 cu. ft. / 473 liter Upright Freezer FUF17DMRWH

Need help w/the coldness of our upright

Recently bought this upright used. I don't think it's exactly like the one above, because it's not frost free. However, we defrosted it and then plugged it in. It wasn't on the next day and we thought we had put it in a bad plug in our garage. Plugged it in that day and heard it kick on and left it to get cold. The next morning it wasn't cold, cranked it over to 7 and left it again (the top shelf did have a shimmer of frost on it, but it wasn't cold enough). Today I turned it down to 4 to see if I could get a difference and still can't get it cold. It didn't come with a manual and I'm unsure which number is the coldest and what I am doing wrong. It was cold and ice covered when we went to look at it and buy it. Please help!

It sounds like a freon leak. This can happen when moving it. I don't recomment fixing it. You can get it charged again and it will work for a while. This will cost you about $75 - $100. You can't do this yourself as you have to be certified to buy freon. The reason I don't recomment fixing it is because when it goes out again you will lose all food. Since it is a freezer you probably don't open it every day and you might not notice that anything is wrong. Try to lay a guilt trip on the seller and see if they will take it back.

Thank you for your inquiry, friend!

Normally it is recommended to set your Frigidaire upright freezer to zero degrees. It is your option to make it cooler if you choose too. I hope this information has been helpful. -Matt

I have had the same problem with my frigidaire/electrolux upright freezer... I am researching to see if there is a pattern. Once or twice a year for the past few years, the freezer defrosted itself. I found the outside of the unit to be VERY hot to the touch around the time that this occurred.
We typically unplug it for a chunk of time when this happens and then replug it. It has always begun working again.
Sadly, we have lost many groceries and have had to clean many bloody meat messes as a result of this. ANYONE buying this freezer should save their receipt... That way, they can return it or have it repaired when it fails. I hate to think of sending all of these failing monstrosities to the landfill... =(

Hi, Put a thermometer in the freezer and see if it gets down to 0 to 5 above zero. If it is not getting that cold, something is wrong. If you had frost building up behind the rear panel, there is a defrost problem.
Please let me know the temperature and I can assist you further.

I bought a used Kenmore upright freezer, it's been running all the time.

The thermostat cycles the refrigerator on and off. The refrigerator normally runs as long as the temperature inside the refrigerator is higher than the set temperature. If the temperature inside the refrigerator is cold enough and the thermostat still does not cycle off, the thermostat may be defective. If so, you need to replace it, because it cannot be repaired. If the thermostat is not defective, you may have a problem with the sealed (refrigerant) system, in which case you should contact a qualified appliance repair technician.

Kenmore Frost Free Comm. Model #253-23425100 - will not stay cold

Two things:

Either the thermostat has inadvertently been turned up, (too warm) or the gas in the compressor tank is low. If it isn't #1, call a repair tech to replentish the has in your compressor. If that isn't it he will tell you what he thinks it is. Good luck!
