Question about Carrier Air Conditioners

1 Answer

Outside unit clicks but doesn't come immediately, it has to do this several times before it comes on, when the inside fan comes on. I thought it was a thermostat issue I replaced the thermostat but it didn't resolve the problem.

What is wrong when weather king air conditioning not coming on?

If you turn the unit to heat and say set the temp to 85 and the furnace fires up but the blower doesnt turn on after a minute or 3, 3 things to check. One is the fan control switch in the plenum. It says the plenum is hot and ok to turn on the blower. If the switch is ok, then check the blower and the capacitor. Set unit to AC and set temp to meat locker. Outside compressor and fan should come on immediately. If not
have a friend turn it on from inside while you listen outside. If you here a click, the contactor is good. If it is, check to see if the 230 Volts circuit breaker (inside in the panel) has not tripped. If thats good check the disconnect next to the outside unit. Then check for 240 AC or so on the far side of the contactor. If thats good, check the split capacitor with the power off. If all the above is good, and the fan doesnt come on, replace the motor in the outside fan. If the fan does come on and the compressor does not, see if there is a protection switch that needs to be reset. And if you dont understand the above, call a reputable dealer (ask your neighbors who they trust)

Goodman air handlers (inside unit) fan have a delay timer that turn on the fan ,sometimes up to 3 minutes after the outside unit is on,this makes the a/c more efficiency.

Turn Tsat to fan to see if inside unit will come on. If it does Tstat needs replaced. If not it is fan motor or fan relay. Possible cap. Do you here the fan relay come in. If it is a Good man unit it is time delay and you wont here it. Need to know your make of unit. Rusty

Heat Pump hums, clicks and does not come on sometimes

yes the start capasitor starts the fan motor and the contactor pulls together when the t-stat tells it to start and it has a spring in it that gets week , some brands of units have a delay in the outside units board to stop it from starting at the exact same time as the airhandler

I have a colman ac unit and the outside unit will not come on. i hear it clicking but nothing happens

On my computer screen these two problems are not the same.

To "garys2003" Clicking you hear is the contactor closing in calling for cooling. If no power is being supplied to the outside unit high voltage the unit will not run. Check your circuit breaker or fuses in the outside power box. If the outside power box is of the non-fused disconnect, check that the disconnect is inserted properly.

To Trenina: Is your unit a self contained unit outside ducted to the inside as with a Mobile Home. If so your evaporator cooling coil may be frozen over stopping air movement, turn the cooling off and set your fan to on until it defrosts, then return to normal operation and leave the fan on during cooling.

If nothing comes on inside as with a central A/C system you may have a problem with the blower motor itself.

A/C quit running

This question is really to broad to answer. There are several things that could cause it to stop running. I think I would turn everything off, let it cool down for several hours and try it again. When you kick it back on, take note of what is running and what's not running. Inside fan, outside fan, compressor. If the outside unit will not run at all it could be as simple as a grasshopper caught in the contacts. If you hear the compressor running outside but no outside fan, The fan motor probably needs replaced. Please make sure that all power to the unit is TURNED OFF before removing cover plates on outside unit and before trying to remove insects from contact points. Check all wiring inside outside unit while it is open. Also check capacitors for swelling or leaking. If you don't know how to turn all the power off or open the outside unit, you need to call a professional AC technician. Hope this helps. kstfas
