GPS2000 won't lock. Tried initializing with current location and time, no go. Erased memory, tried initializing from ground zero with no location, no go even after an hour. It appeared to get a time signal, but not enough satellites were received to lock up. Perhaps the info in the permanent memory is too old to be pertinent. Hmm.

Possible solution, at least my GPS2000 finally locked up. Initialize; enter current location and time; wait until there are more than four (I had seven) satellites available; find a location nearby that has a clear view nearly to the horizon in all directions; place the GPS2000 on a stationary base with the antenna as horizontal as practical; wait; mine finally locked up after perhaps 30 to 40 minutes. Patience and an abundance of satellites, I think, are the answer. Good luck.

    at 45.50N x 77.11W.. satellites now indicate [0] or [1]. typical years 2007 - 2010.
previously in 1998 [3] [4] [5] were common signal strengths.
my first problem was a no lock on near Bangor Maine USA august 2000.
I had beleived sats', were off due to military zone air-traffic in from Atlantic, as was observed.

Magellan Roadmate 1412 won't track satellites

It might mean that the signal is disrupted. Might be a software glitch. Try going outside, get a clear view of the sky. Then reboot/reset the unit. Hold the switch to the reset position or off position for 10 seconds, it will shut off. then switch it back on. It should reacquire a signal within 2-5 minutes, then it will fix on your position. If that doesn't work, try updating your software. Call Magellan Tech Support for instructions.

Magellan Roadmate 2036-mu will not find satellite signal at all. It straight out of the box. tried having it in clear view of the sky, and still nothing. Any suggestions?

Slide the power switch to turn it OFF and hold it in that position for about 20 secs or more. Release the switch and now restart the GPS by sliding the power switch again. The GPS should start up and start searching for satellites.

I believe you have to input your location lat & long so that it knows basically where it is so that it can decide which sat's to use. Hope this may help.

that means the sattiles are not locked on yet...hold the power button to turn it off for ten to fifteen secounds, then turn it back on and let it acquire the satellites...take it outside in clear view of the open sky till the satellites lock on...

My screen is lock on a site 30 miles away. It finds the satellites and even caculates my speed but won't move off that spot

hi abzellar, one of two thing could be wrong with it.
if the menu button on the main screen says Esc instead of menu, then it is in the search/view map function. just press the esc button and it should go to the main map.

if not, then just reset it and let it in clear view of the open sky outside, this could take up to 30 minutes depending on the conditions but normally they (the satellites) will lock on within 5 minutes.

there are 2 ways to reset your 4040

  1. turn it on and then hold the power button for 15 seconds. after it turns off, hold the power button until it starts. let it sit outside as explained previously.
  2. start the gps and once its booted up, using a paper clip, insert it in the rest hole on the side and let it restart. let it sit outside as explained previously.
if you need further help, just ask.

Magellan roadmap 760

The Magellan 760 has been around for a few years now, and unfortunately, isn't one of the fastest units around when it comes to synchronizing to a satellite. I find with mine that the time it takes to lock onto a signal depends on several factors:
1) Having the GPS mounted in a way that allows the antenna to have a clear view upward 2) Having my vehicle in the open, so that the signal isn't impaired by adjacent buildings, overhanging trees, etc. 3) Being stationary while the GPS attempts to get a lock. It has more problems locking while moving. 4) Ensuring that the GPS is used frequently, as it loses its memory of what satellites it's synchronized with if you happen to be in a different place when you turn it on than the place you were at when you last turned it off.
Those last two points have the most affect on my GPS's performance. I find that by turning on the GPS and just parking in my driveway or parking lot for a few minutes will allow the GPS to acquire a signal in a much shorter time than if I start to drive immediately. While this will waste a bit of time on the front end, it does help you get synchronized more quickly
