Appears to recognise connection but when receiving

Back up your Garmin Training center (File , Export, History...Workouts... Courses.

Then try reinstalling software. My wifes PC has done this a few times. I think it is becasue she is not using the "safly remove hardware" icon in the task bar when disconecting.
Reinstalling the sofware has worked for us.

I have a new Forerunner 305 and it transfered my first workout to the computer but will no longer do so. The device says "Transfer Complete" however the computer states "There was a problem communicating...

I've just experienced a similar issue for the first time since owning my Garmin 305 Forerunner. Slight difference in my circumstance is that the device itself doesn't show the activity in its history, despite having displayed apparently accurate readings during the activity iteself. Bizarre isuee, and although it's my first issue with this otherwise great device, it does destroy your faith in the unit.

Garmin 305 stops uploading data

Try maybe a different computer and see if it works. If it doesn't then something is wrong with your item. Clearing the history won't help.

Can't upload workouts from Forerunner 305

After deleting all but one month of history on the device, it still would not upload new workouts. It would hang in garmin connect, or indicate problem in training center. The solution, finally, was to delete all history EXCEPT for the new unloaded workouts from the device. They then uploaded.

Communication between device and computer

The first thing I would try is to go to the manufacturers web side and download current USB drivers for you computer and device. Install the driver, reboot your computer and try to connect the device. If that doesn't work please let us know.

When trying to retrieve history from my Garmin forerunner 305 device into my software program on my computer I am prompted with a pop-up stating that there is a problem communicating with my device and it...

Charging the battery shows that at least 2 of the 4 wires inside your USB cable work.

A pop-up about communication suggests you may need a newer driver installed. If you're sure you've got the best driver installed, try replacing the cable in case 1 of the 2 data wires is broken.
