How much memory you have right now, this model does have capability of upto 1GB , If you are running Vista on your computer try inserting a blank 1GB USB flash drive, and You will have 1 GB additional memory.

That means you installed memory that is incompatible. If it worked before you changed the memory, the memory you put in is incompatible or bad.

I want to upgrade the graphics card on my acer aspire m3400 but can not locate the card on the motherboard

That's because the video is integrated into the motherboard. This PC supports HDMI... what exactly are you trying to 'upgrade'? If the on-board video is not performing as you want, from what you can see here, you may only need to upgrade RAM on your MB:

http://support.acer.com/acerpanam/desktop/2010/acer/Aspire/AspireM3400/AspireM3400sp2.shtml

#4 at the bottom of the page:
Shared system memory may be allocated to support integrated graphics, depending on system memory size and other factors. Actual system memory available to the operating system will be reduced by the amount of dedicated and shared system memory utilized by the graphics solution and resources required by the operating environment.

How do i get to the ram on my acer aspire 3100 to upgrade my ram

Turn the computer off, then turn the computer over with the screen shut. Take a screw driver and un-screw the memory housing (that is the big part.) It is the opposite corner from the battery. Be sure to unplug the ac adapter, and remove the battery. Your owners manual will tell you how to do it. If you don't have it you can download it from Acer Support.
