Question about Dell OptiPlex GX260 PC Desktop

Odd Dates reported

Hi,

Using an Optiplex GX 260, XP Pro, 2GB RAM

Started having problem with Quicken software which would randomly try to reinstall itself over the existing program. Spent LOTS of time trying to fix that, removing it, reinstalling it, etc, using the Quicken software to remove the software, using the Microsoft uninstall utility to check, and even checking the registry for any remaining remnants of Quicken.

OK, that led me to give up and buy a new copy of quicken which installed OK. But, I check the add/remove listing (just to double check that I had removed the old quicken) and I saw that the new quicken was used rarely and was last used in 2027!!!

Now I checked the system time is correct.

Any ideas what I'm facing?

Thank you.

Jim

Are any other applications reporting an incorrect date? The CMOS batteries I have replaced usually gave a date in the past, not the future. Are there date settings within Quicken that can be changed?

    what operating system....

and at first blush i would say bios battery needs to be changed... the time is correct.... did you check the date as well

there is another reason the time could be wrong but i'll wait to see what you have to say about the operating system

I've seen this happen on PCs that have had some virus\spyware issues. Provided the Cmos battery is good, run an online virus scan. The other times I've come across this issue is from software that has it's activation cracked.

I want to upgrade my dell gx 260 to the new windows 7 os .idid aupgrade advisor report online. it said i needed to upgrade my graphics adapter and ram memory.

Hello!

If you want my advise, don´t do that. I see how like windows 7, and I can say that is windows xp sp3, very fast and flexible, and safe, and don´t need so much. Windows 7 looks like windows vista, and I thik that have stil more trouble.

Odd Install date on software

It's really not a problem, and has been a flaw in XP for a very long time. It has to do with the way it "guesses" in the registry entry.

Here's a link to a blog about this from years ago

Install Vista on Dell optiplex gx 260

The big problem you will ever face with Windows Vista using optiplex gx260 is the screen resolution...This is a great hurdle in the upgradation of Windows...You're also to keep in mind that there are some softwares which are not compatable with Vista like folder lock etc...So I'd suggest not to shift to Vista...XP is still the best option...allowing multiple tasks to perform securely, faster and without any compatability issue...Enjoy using Windows XP...

Dell optiplex gx-260 slow performace

If this is happening on all workstations you should look at your network settings and verify that your DNS settings are correct.  Also look in the error logs on the server to see if it is fillingup with system or application errors.
