Is recommended to use any cleaning product that does not contains bleach or chlorine. There are rubber components inside the pump casing which bleach/chlorine shortens out the life expectancy of these components. Liquid lysol, simple green or mr clean are ok to use.

The Humidfier Tray in my Rinnai heater is enamel - can I put vinegar in it to clean it from calcium build up?

Hi,

isolated calcium should have a 2+ charge at the atomic level. So what every you use has to have a negative charge to have the best chance at removing the calcium. These means you need a base of some sort, so you might consider cleaning with baking soda or potentially olive oil. Please reference a period table to find more negatively charged elements (should be on right side of the table).

Thank you.

What is lime?

Hi Ken,
Lime is a calcium-containing inorganic material in whichcarbonates, oxides and hydroxides predominate. Strictly speaking, lime is calcium oxide or calcium hydroxide. It is also the name of the natural mineral (native lime) CaO which occurs as a product of coal seam fires and in altered limestonexenoliths in volcanic ejecta.[1] The word "lime" originates with its earliest use as building mortar and has the sense of "sticking or adhering

Where is the clean button on the coffee maker?

There is no clean button.
To clean the scale buildup in the water system, you need to run a couple of cups of clear vinegar throught the system, run 24 cups of water (2 brew cycles) through the system to flush.
If the buildup is severe, you can substitue a calcium cleaner like CLR (Calcium-Lime-Rust) cleaner in place of the vinegar for a more aggressive cleaning.
Depending upon the hardness of your water, you need to do the cleaning every 30-45 pots of coffee.
Let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks.

LIMESCALE BUILD UP

To prevent lime build-up, use distilled water instead of tap water. I buy bottles of distilled water for use in my irons and steamers and have never gotten calcium or lime build-ups.
You can buy a product by the name of CLR (stands for Calcium, Lime & Rust) which can be found at stores such as Target, Walgreens, CVS, Walmart, etc.) to wipe the build-up from your iron. You can also run this solution through your iron to clean the build-up from the inside.
