Question about Dometic NDR 1292 Refrigerator

Not getting cool enough

My refrigerator suddenly stopped cooling effectively. It is a built-in unit in my RV. I live in a very hot climate and when I take the cover off of the rear from the outside of the RV it seems like the air around the coils is very hot. I tried running it on AC and propane to no avail. The freezer is still cold enough near the cooling element to freeze ice but everything else is defrosted. The fridge is so warm all my milk and eggs and such have spoiled. What should I do? I have two problems with my model NDR1292 (1999 Fleetwood motorhome)
(1) The refrigerator side does not stay cold enough.
(2) Should the water from the coil, etc., drain outside? When I pour water under the coil on the frig, side, it comes out at the drain on the bottom of the freezer, I've tried blowing out the lines and using bleach.

I live in a hot, 100* plus air my NDR1292 side by side Reefer doesnt really get cold until i move the rig into cooler climes. I've heard that normal:spread is that the fridge should be 40 degrees below ambient temp and the freezer an additrional 30*. Using that math, on a 105 degree day, my beer is going to be 65 degrees and the freezer barely glow freezing. Is this normal?? If not, what do I check. I already have a new cooling unit and (2) thermostatic exhaust fans working to keep it cool Whaddays think?

freezer works fine but refrigerator does not cool down

I have the same model.... it is installed in a non roof vented application. IE top vent and botton vent on the side of the unit. There are two 12v pancake fans installed to circulate cool air from the bottom louver out to the top louver. If the Thermostat attached to the upper fins is not working properly the fans will not turn on. Or your fans may be Burnt out. I replace mine with two large Computer fans with red led lights. Now I know when the fans are on ....... Fridge works great.......

We had a similar problem with our RV fridge. We were told to remove the refrigerator and lay it on it's side for a couple of hours. (Something about getting the amonia circulating. We then stood it back up for the same amount of time before re-installing. I'm not sure this is the fix, but it fortunately worked for us.

This sounds like a compressor problem. if the outside coils are getting hot (and properly ventilated) but the inside of the unit is not getting cold then the heat is coming from the compressor.

If the RV was level when it did not function. First you will want to open the rear vent of the fridge on the RV and check for a yellow residue above the burner area. If you do see that, then you will require a replacement cooling unit because the pipe ruptured. It is common in all new RV fridges that the cooling units lets go within 3 to 7 years. Wiil not cool

If the heater is geting hot and not cooling sounds like it is in the defrost mode just defrosting or stuck in defrost mode.If it is in defrost mode it should stop defrosting after a while and start cooling. They defrost every so many hours depending on how they are set.

Thetford N90 EL.L built-in has stopped cooling/freezing. It has power (the light is on) Any repair suggestions?

If it won't cool on all 3 power sources the cooling unit is probably faulty. Contact Thetford asap if the unit is uner 3 years old as it should be under warranty. Thetford won't sell a replacement cooling unit, their only answer is that you need to buy a new fridge at over £600. I have this problem too and am looking for another solution but to luck so far

Quits cooling on hot humid days

The evaporator coil is not getting cold enough to draw the humidity out. You may need to clean the indoor and outdoor coils thoroughly. If the unit still isn't cooling right, it is probably due to a refrigerant leak in the system. You will have to to have the unit looked at by a professional if there is a leak. Leaks can be very difficult to find and very costly. Most of the time, it is more cost effective to replace it if necessary.
