Question about Microphones

1 Answer

Beta 87 a picks up the entire stage sound (including drums) and my mix sounds muddy.

I have four beta 87a mikes. The problem is that when I solo each mike at the mixer, I hear the entire stage, drums, bass,.....everything. I installed a presonus acp 88 (which I have no experience using) but I still can't seem to get rid of the bleeding.

you may need to reduce the gain somewhat to help reduce this problem. Are you using the microphones for vocal work. They should have great performance used as a handheld vocal mic. You need to go through each performer, and set levels for for peak input. Adjust the channel gain down to a point when the mic is loudly spoken into, until you have no overload light up on that channel. very occasional flash is ok. If you set each channel in this manner with just one vocalist at a time(a sound check) you should have no problems with levels. As for the bleed from the rest of the band, there will always be some there, and is not so much of an issue. If you wish for less, a dynamic type ,it will pull in less bleed, but not offer the excellent performance of the beta 87a

It's a condenser mic, so I suspect you aren't getting power to it. Make sure the phantom power is turned on on the mixer.

It's missing the male XLR insert at the base which plugs into the 3 sockets. Is this available as a spare part?

yes, most electronic part stores or web, remember that this mike is low impedance, made for cable runs over 20 feet, if you use a shorter cable it will work but the sound will be not right

Shure beta 57A ..low recording volume from acoustic piano ...Directly to laptop no mixer used

are you using an interface?
Your level will be always be lower if you are going straight in.
Your interface and mixer will help you get the correct level in to your system before recording and also shaping the sound after the recording. You just need to get more gain up in there

Is my new Shure Beta 87A microphone a fake

Unfortunately, there are many types of counterfeits out there. So, differences that you see posted online might not apply to all counterfeits. That is, various factories in China produce the counterfeits differently. The best thing to do is to completely avoid unreliable sources, such as eBay and Craigslist. Be extremely suspicious of any products on the internet.

Trying to use shure beta 87A with AT8801...getting no output. All connections tested and operational. Input to computer sound card or amp doesn't matter

Measure the voltage comming of pin2 and pin1, or between pin2 and pin3. If you donot get 48 volts the 8801 is bad. check your cable to make sure that pin2 and pin3 are not shorted. If you still have problems you can call Pro Line Music we ae a shure and at dealer. 215-736-8055
