Remove the batterty andclean the internal battery contact with an
eraser on the end of a pencil- take a flash light to look inside the compartment to enfure they are bright and clean.
Make sure the battery door and contact srip are a good tight fit
Hold the door down with a finger whilst switching on
Other than that there is little moreyou can do

After searching the internet for months for a solution and calling Kodak, who told me to "send the camera back along with $80," this morning I popped in 2 AA batteries...and it worked!!! Unbelievable!

The brand new rechargeable battery wouldn't work, but 2 individual AA batteries did the trick.
Can't figure out why the separate batteries work, but the dual pack won't.

I have a Kodak EasyShare Z740, it will only turn on to view pictures but turns off quickly (turns off on own) when I try to take a picture.

Hi, my Kodak EasyShare Z740 turns off after taking one picture, or even just by focusing.

That sounds like your batteries are worn out because they are rechargeable. The trickle charger doesn't have enough milli-amps to run the camera only to charge the battery.

An unused memory card inserted into the kodak z740 says memory card needs formatted

May be you inserted a memory card formatted with your PC or has some errors.
In any case, use the 'Format' function in the camera menu. (I guess you will be able to find it if you browse thru the menus). This will enable the memory card to be used with the camera.

Z740 camera repeatedly formating memory card

Hello Dear

  • Insert your memory card into your computer's reader if you have one. If not, you can purchase a multi-format USB Memory Card reader from Amazon.com or Buy.com
  • 2 Open up 'My Computer'. You should see it under the list of available drives.
  • 3 Check its contents first to make sure that you have the right drive.
  • 4 In 'My Computer', right-click on the drive and choose 'Format'.
  • 5 Leave all the options as they are and click on 'Start'. This is a non-reversible process so make sure this is what you truly wanted to do in the first place.
  • 6 Once the process is completed, take the memory card out and insert it into your Digital Camera or any other device. Try to browse to it to make sure it works fine now.
