Question about Projection Televisions

1 Answer

My Phillips Rear Projection TV (Model Number 55PP970104) has a very weak picture. I took the back casing off and dusted off the projectors with a lens cloth for my digital camera. I also dusted off the mirrors to try and fix the problem. The convergence when i try to fix the blue isn't even showing up? What is a solution for this problem and is it a DIY solution or should I just man up and have a repairman fix it?

Thank you for the extremely fast response! I am going to take the back off right now and see what i can see. I'll post my results soon.

Wow you were dead on with the diagnostic. There is nothing showing up in the blue CRT. Its just a blue light shining.

  • gnarlysessio Jun 28, 2008

I sent them an email about the blue CRT in my TV. When i went to the Phillips/Magnavox tab on the left hand side it only showed they carried green and red but i still dropped them an email to see if they can get it. Thanks again for your time you've been a great help and hopefully I can get this puppy up and running again. Real quick is a home repair an option if I order the part or would it be advisable to take it to a repair shop?

Look into the lens of the blue CRT while the set is playing see if a picture is present as in the red and green if not youre likely needing a blue CRT or the coolant changed.

yes, I kind of figured that was the cas as I have seen that countless times with that chassis. I work for a place that has the blue Tubes for that model. and they sell them for a fraction of what anyone else is selling them for. heres a link tell them I sent you, and leave a email indicating the model number and which tube your needing they will respond quickly as they have a suppoert tech there untill 10pm eastern time 7 days a week.Heres the link.

They dont list all the parts they have especially for phillips as they are in high demand, so they kind of give us employees first shot at the HD tubes. But they will hook you up with one.

Sonny from service manuals just called and wanted me to have you send him a email from another email address if possible as he said he was trying to answer your questions about the install proceedure, but for some reason it keeps coming back as undeliverable.

Usually this is a case of bad bulb. While having this replaced have all fans cleaned of dust including projector assembly.

Sony kp-61hs10 tv, has sound but picture goes black after 3 min.

I just had the same problem. If your lucky it might be a free 5 minute fix. The five light flashes mean impropper current. I took the front grill off, then behind that is another black cover, I took that off and noticed the circuit boards COVERED in dust. I then took an air can duster and blew off all the dust... works like new. No more flashes and in an out picture. The collection of dust was interfereing with the electrical current.

The color seems to be fading. NOt a clear picture.

Likely the picture tubes are getting weak from old age. Not much you can do about this.

sounds like a defective red CRT drive PCB. You will need the one for the DPTV 300 series Phillips. You should be able to get a replacement at the following link.
