There is no heat coming from dryer, other than that everything works fine for +/- 10 mins. The heating element is clean and continuous.

not only do you have to check the heater doing a continuity test on the heater itself but also you have to do the same continuity test to the hi and low thermistors and the run relay as well if the unit is running for 10 minutes and then it is cutting off this is most likely the hi- limit thermistor that is at fault but conduct your continuity test to assure which part is at fault if you have any further questions message me back and please remember when our chat has fully concluded to rank how this opinion has helped it allows me to continue helping others in similar situations Thanks Rick

Whirlpool dryer model LE 5920 electric dryer does not heat and the rotating knob does not automatically turn when on the "Automatic Permanent Press" cycle, however the knob does gradually turn...

Hi

If the dryer is not drying the clothes then you would need to check for the following things-
1. Inspect the fuses and circuit breakers they may have burned out or tripped. Usually, dryer will still tumble but not create heat if a fuse or a circuit breaker is not working.
2. Check for the amp reading at 240 V, it should have reading of 24, 21 and 3 amp (approx.) for 2 lines and neutral respectively.
3. Heating element may have turned or the connection to the element might be loose. Sometimes a shorted circuit element will keep on blowing the fuse or circuit breaker.
4. Motor wiring shorting to ground.
Please check part#23(thermostat heater) and part#17(element) below--

Hope this helps... Please post back if you need more information.

To check thermostats do you just check continuity?

Yes, thermostats vary on what the thermostats control if it is just heat you will need two less wires. Do not always go by color go by manufactures wiring diagram. You need to find out your common wire normally it will be marked with a C on most cases find out through manual what letter marking it is then use a ohm meter to check your common to each wire there should be continuity.

The only time a ohms setting should be met are on contact that you use low voltage to switch on 110 voltage or transformers that turn high voltage to low voltage which should also be specified in manual.

Will not heat

Your timer has a red wire (marked RH on the timer) disconnect it with the power off of course, check for continuity between this point and all other points on that timer. If you cannot get continuity even while slowly moving the timer manually all around the dial then you have a bad timer. Sometimes you can clean the points on the timer but most of the time you must replace it.
