Hi,
My laptop didnt enable the wifi with the fn+f8 key.
I even reset the cmos and nothing.
Then I went to toshiba drivers website and after installing the "thku" "toshiba hotkey utility" the fn+f8 start working and enable/disable the wifi. It now shows a popup windows when I press the fn+f8 key.
Before the wifi led was always off. Windows detected the wifi device but nothing on the wifi available list.
Now the led is always on, starts orange when I turn on the pc and blue when connected.
Go download and install the network drivers from Toshiba's site. Get onlineand got to www.google.com In the google search box type: "ToshibaSupport" (without the quotes and put your manufacturer name before Support). Look for downloads and drivers. Enter your model number and operatingsystem when requested. Download and install the Network drivers.Maybe you don't have your wireless turned on. Look onboth sides and in front for the Wireless Switch and turn it on. Sometimes there might be a button at the top of the keyboard or along the sides to press that turns the wireless on.
Also once the wireless switch is turned on there are key strokes that can togglethe wireless on or off. Normally you would Press and Hold the FN functionkey located at the lower left of the keyboard, then hit the correct F1 thru F12key that toggles the wireless. The correct F1 thru F12 key to hit willhave the wireless signal icon )))) on it. Or it might have the icon of a towerwith the wireless signal icon )))). Normally the screen will displayWireless On or Wireless Off when you toggle the wireless. If the wireless still is not on after the above two steps try this: Turn the laptop off, Remove the Power Cord, Remove the battery, Remove the cover that houses the wireless on the bottom of the laptop, then remove the two wires (antennas (normally a black and white caboe)) that are connected to the wireless card (be sure to remember which wire goes where. Then remove the wireless card from the slot. It might be secured by a screw. Leave the wifi card out for 30 seconds then put it all back together and reboot.
Go to the factory support site and download and install the network driver. If you are not sure which one to choose contact the Toshiba support staff via email for assistance.
The F8 button is to get into safe mode not for wireless!!!!
There is either a button near the lid to switch it on or off.
Alternatively right click on the wireless icon at the lower left and switch on.
First - Determine if your Toshiba Satellite has built-in Wi-Fi. Open the Start
menu in the lower left corner of the desktop. Choose "Control Panel"
and select "Performance and Maintenance." Click on the "System" icon
and click on the "Hardware" tab in the System Properties window. Click
on the "Device Manager" button. Click on the plus sign next to "Network
adapters." Look for a device that has "Wireless" or "WLAN" in the name.
If you see this device listed, then you have built-in wireless.
Next - Turn on the wireless by holding down the "Fn" key on the keyboard and
then pressing "F8" at the top of the keyboard. Press this combination
until the window indicates that Wi-Fi is on. Some Toshiba notebooks
have a switch on the front left side of the laptop
that will turn the Wi-Fi on. Many Toshiba Satellites have an LED
indicator light on the right front edge of the notebook that will turn
on when the Wi-Fi is on.
Finally - Click on the Start menu in the lower left corner of the desktop. Select
"My Network Places" and click on "View network connections" in the menu
on the left side of the window. Double click on the "Wireless Network Connection"
icon. This will open a window that lists available wireless networks.
Click on the name of the network you wish to connect to and click on
the "Connect" button at the bottom. Type in the password if required
and connect to to the network. Open a web browser to test the
connection.
Hi, I hope that you are still monitoring this "Website" for a "Solution?" I might be able to help you. Follow these instructions, and we will be able to get you connected. I'm familar with the "Computer Model" that you have, so lets get started! First, click on the (Start button) to open the "Start Menu," next "Type" in the (Search box): "Toshiba." In the Program list; find the Toshiba Application Installer, and "select" to open. The Driver Installer "appear." Now you can select, and install the Wireless Drivers; click on the "Next" button, in the ("choose an item...") window, select the By Name: Wireless LAN Driver, and to the (right), click on the "Install" button. To finish click on the "Exit" button. Note: Follow all instructions thereafter exactly. "I hope this help you, let me know, if possible"
Another Alternative is to check your BIOS to see whether or not your Wireless is turned on, if it is not pressent in your BIOS then update your BIOS Driver on the Internet to ver 1.4, Double check your version Compatabillity. Next if the adapter driver is installed, follow the following intructions: start -> settings -> control panel -> system -> hardware -> device manager -> now look for the wireless adapter, see if it is operational or marked with an error -> if it is marked check that it is configured for automatic, and also the resources. Set the configuration manually if so. restart the system.
1) Resource conflict = change resource settings
2) No adapter = check if the adapter is enabled (Y) then see if there is any conflicts (y) correct the settings e.g. resources and see if windows shows that the device is enabled (N) try to enable this device. If (N) then goto BIOS settings to correct it.
